Title: Dealing with weird sh i t
Post by: oldbill4823 on February 10, 2011, 11:36:34 AM
If you have ever witnessed something supernatural I want you to read this small article to the end.

I say this because recently several people have written to me asking to explain strange events.  I therefore thought it was a good time to introduce some of you to a type of study called supernatural Phenomonolgy .

Phenomonolgy is the accurate recording of our perceptions of strange experiences. This type of approach should be in the tool chest of anyone who goes looking for monsters, hunting the supernatural, or any type of spiritual/psychic development.

Phenomonolgy is akin to scientific method of dealing with our experience by staying clear of clichéd explanations in order to describe an event.
For example I saw a demon using phenomonolgy becomes I witnessed a dark shape with no discernable edge approximately 10 feet in front of me. This stayed in my vision for approximately ten seconds and as I struggled to focus on it I felt a sickening feeling in my solar plexus.

Which is more accurate? Which conveys more information?

The very act of calling something a demon defines predicts  and distorts any experience to fit within the “demon” knowledge set we have. It does not allow for anything outside of the ideas we have about “demons” . In a brief moment we have limited ourselves to a fraction of all possibilities available.

Another example here on the forum was a discussion about entrance ways to hell. As it happens I have been to this place in a very real sense. The only question aimed at me about my seemingly outrageous statement that I had been there was, “ how did I deal with all the fire and brimstone?”.

Here is someone whose second or third hand  knowledge set based on the world “hell” bares absolutely no resemblance to an actual first hand experience of that place.
That is the power and danger of labels.  They pretend to give us knowledge of things that can only really handled by direct experience. The information that comes with labels are likely to be flawed  erroneous and potentially dangerous, especially when we start venturing into the unknown for real.

The trouble with labelling things from the unknown is that they give us a false sense of familiarity that will make us act via assumption and cultural conditioning. It is as if by giving something a label we can control and understand and deal with it better. This is a recipie for disaster as much cultural conditioning we are exposed to know is third fourth fifth hand information recycled and repackaged as entertainment.

For example when we look through the Monstropedia sections here on this forum we can clearly see that many so called creatures owe as much to their label history due to the like of Dungeons and Dragons and popular spin offs from the Tolkein fascinations of the past 50 years, as they do to real recorded interactions.

Of course in the face of bizarre and unsettling experiences the urge is to seek an explanation for our perceptions, it is the human urge to seek comfort in labeling
So just how can we deal with strange unusual experiences intelligently?

The most accurate way to relate to the unknown is to knowingly acknowledge it as the unknown. Chuck all your preconceived ideas about stuff “out there”in in the bin. It only limits our real intelligence. Our real intelligence starts to shine through when we can simply accurately record what we witness and question every single assumption we have made about things. This is the spirit of all true exploration and discovery. So you didn’t see a demon attack you, what you actually witnessed was…………

Get the idea?

In a strange way doing this will answer what it was you experienced much much more fully than a simple label ever will.

Great post. I guess, in the end, we have to make our own individual observations. But never assume anything.
