Cardinals tend to like to nest towards trees or bushes that are close to houses or buildings. We had a couple in our kitchen window for the longest of time but they were so sweet and kept to themselves and would eat the berries from the tree. It was sad because we had to cut the bush down because it was growing into our house and damaging it (I would have rather kept looking at the bush with the cardinals then the lousy weird neighbors that only come out at night and are loud). Another cardinal couple lives in a tree near my work at school and will go to a near bush that has berries. A question would be is there a berry bush of some sort or a bird feeder close by. Cardinals are very nice creatures and get along with humans pretty well. Its that time of year where cardinals start nesting. You can tell if its a girl cardinal if it has the rising head ridge like the boy cardinals and they make a certain sound that only cardinals make (kind of like a squeek noise that you can make on a hand held bird caller which looks kind of like a whistle).

I would be surprized if it was a deceased loved one though. I feel like I had that experience with the great grandfather (except it was a cowbird which are pretty but not pleasent). But I would go with my first idea first. I would just not feed it and just leave it alone. It probably is mad at you for some reason maybe you scared it or something one day because birds are really smart and hold grudges for a long time (reminds me of my parakeet named stupid gosh that bird is nuts).

*shrug* Maybe - that does sound like a reasonable explanation. Are birds really that smart to hold grudges like that? She left me for a while and I actually started to miss her... but after a week or so she came back.

Already tried that - my bird friend just flies away to the fence post or something and chirps at me, but ignores the window.

  At this point I think just living with it would be the best option.

I don't really mind it - I even missed it when it went away for about a week. I was just curious if it could be anything I needed to look into. I don't really mind her banging on my window, though I'm not sure if it's good for her health to continue.

  Not so.  We have alligators and crocodilians.  Also sharks, though not dino's, have been around for just as long.  Sorry to interupt.

We also have the Loch Ness Monster. Im Scottish, I can get away with my pure naive belief in Nessie. lol.
