Title: Wand Makeing
Post by: SKGS on August 03, 2011, 02:23:25 PM
Decided to make my own wand (wood only).
It's already cut (from a live tree) and cleaned from the bark.
Now I am stuck, what  do I do next. Do I cleanse the wand and then consecrate it?
Do I rubb it with certain oils first? Do you consecrate it during a specific moonphase?

Hope you can help.

I hope you asked the tree and gave it an offering for its sacrifice  :-P

Typically, depending on how you want your wand empowered, there are different rituals that you can go through to cleanse and consecrate your wand.  All of these different rituals can take place during different phases and times of day.

If I were you I would specify what kind of energies you wish to have in your wand.  Example: If you want fae magick, find a ritual in a book or online for a ritual imbuing it with fae magick.

Honestly, the best rituals come from yourself, you just need to do some research before continuing.

Place to start:  What kind of wood is it?
Look at the properties of that wood and see if that's really what you're going for.

Yes, before I even cut the little branch of I ask if it was alright and I left an offering at the tree roots after.

The only tree that agreed was an old oak tree the other one I asked was a young birch.
Oak as far as I understand it is for fertility magic. It is not quite what I would like, more looking for general magic, but there are no other trees around.

If I maybe so bold, did you ever make one?

Thats kinda funny. We planted the birch for our daughter it's her tree.

Fertility magic isn't JUST about having children. It is about everything growing, the lifecycles, the changes in the seasons, etc.

Great that was what I was looking for.

Can you just make a wand from a tree or can you make an amulet?,

Taken from Dictionary.Com:

Quote
am·u·let
   /ˈæmyəlɪt/ Show Spelled[am-yuh-lit] Show IPA
noun
a small object worn to ward off evil, harm, or illness or to bring good fortune; protecting charm.
Origin:
1595–1605;  (< Middle French amulete ) < Latin amulētum

Synonyms
talisman.

An amulet can be anything really, as long as it does its purpose.

@LG
The last line in the quote box is mine. Sorry. Still having trouble getting with the quote box.

@drakes_hand
Traditional wands are made out of wood (trees). I guess you could make an amulet out of wood. Pine trees have several magical uses.
They are good for healing, fertility, protection, exorcism, money.

Found a good website for wand makeing. it's called realmagicwands.com (Willowroot Wands Shop).

Many wands show a small crystal on the tip of the wand. Does that inhance your power that you channel thru it?

They look pretty, but are they functional?

Honestly, from everything I know making your own wand is more effective than buying one.  I'm also a firm believer that sometimes items can choose people and be passed on from one person to the next when the time is right.

But, of course, you can buy one and imbue it with whatever energies you want to and hope for the best.  Call me old-fashioned, but I would buy these just because they were pretty, not functioning.

You both are right. Most or better all the websites I went on just wanted to sell their products.
This one in particular gave me some info on how to finish the wood and a real simple dedication.

What about the crystal? Does it emplify your powers or is it just for show?

depending on the crystal all sorts of minerals can be used to hold and amplify magic but they dont have to be attached to the wand neccessarily they can be worn or even on your alter.Oak wood is in most countries considered very powerfl in magick and is goof for not just fertility but exorcism and power its primarily connected to sky gods and is a very masculine tree with a long standing in fairy folklore.

However i have 2 one of metal the other wood and they were made in two entirely different ways to be used in two entirely different forms of magic the metal one being made of ironis used in my work with fetishes's ill spirits e.t.c. My wood wand is a branch taken from a river so i do not know the specific tree it came from however it carried residual river energy within it when i got it, i oil or rub wax/coco butter into wooden wands to keep them looking nice to prevent splintering and as a chance to add power to them.
i recommend a direct consecration because cleansing atleast a very thorough one in my ideaology would remove the atributes of that wood that you wanted in the first place.

Making your own tools is always more effective magically because you have put your own energy into the object, gave birth to it in a way. If the Oak tree spoke to you then there is a reason. As LG said, fertility isn't just babies, it's the continuation of life, nature. That's one of the reasons Oak is so magically powerful. As for the crystals, I've never been big into wands but most of what I have seen for sale seems more like "show & tell" or little kids stuff. I have met some people who added ribbons, carvings, crystals, etc to their wands but each had a purpose & most of the time these wands were reserved for "special occasions" their everyday wand was almost always much simpler.

Finished the wand. I decorated it with several symbols and colors. Now it is wraped in a yellow clothe and put away till the next full moon.

It was a lot of fun and I think I will make another one. Does anyone have any suggestion? Just nothing with carving, I always cut myself when I use sharp objects.lol

Well, instead of carving you can get a woodburner.  Those are fun and pretty :)

Ooooh woodburners are fun! You just reminded me of arts & crafts at sleepaway camp. They are fun, make fire, look pretty, & make a good smell. Okay, anyway,  :focus: Congratulations on finishing the wand. I am a bit jealous since I love wands but they never seem to feel right, even ones I make. Enjoy!

Working on a cover to put the wand in instead of a box.
It will be white and with red ribbon to close the top.

Woodburners are kind of dangerous for me its like with knifes I seem to injure myself a lot and with a woodburner .....
