Title: wood, stone and flower
Post by: jordyn on July 15, 2006, 08:23:57 PM
post any plant or stone meanings that you suggest, or ask questions about any that may assist with ailments.

i'll start with stones i actually wear;

amethyst(set in a silver, filigree ring)-Amethyst Cool and relaxing, amethyst is a stone of psychic power. Wearing it helps promote meditation, peace, tranquility and oneness with your spiritual goals. It enhances and strengthens the powers of the bearer and helps attune with the higher self, dispelling fears, heightening intuition and helping to embrace your own intuitive wisdom

moonstone(centered in a silver pentacle, surrounded by an arborous)- Vibrating with the feminine wisdom and Goddess energy of the waxing and full Moon, has a reflective, calming energy. It helps to strengthen intuition and psychic perception and brings balance and harmony with the All. It is said to have the power to grant wishes. The Rainbow effect invokes a spectrum of light, and feels cleansing and uplifting.

lavender-LAVENDER
G/P/E: Masculine, Mercury, Air.
Magical attributes: Sleep, long life, peace, wishes, protection, love, purification, visions, attracting men, clarity of thought.

Strawberry - Love and Luck

and one of my most favorite flowers...

daisy- DAISY
G/P/E: Feminine, Venus, Water
Magical uses:Decorate the house with daisies at Midsummer's Eve to bring happiness to the home and to obtain the blessings of faeries. Daisies are also worn at Midsummer for luck and blessings. In the old times, young maidens would weave and wear daisy chains in their hair to attract their beloved.

Sage: burn some to rid your home from evil spirits and negative energy. Burn tobacco with it to enhance the effect. It's also good to "clean" your spirit.

our local spiritual store has these delightful blends of sage...

sage with sweetgrass to bring sweetness and sage with lavender to bring a calming cleansing,  i always have the dizziest sensations after smudging...excess negativity?

so i don't smudge after i've been driving.

I wish I had a spiritual store by me, it would make obtaining these things so much simpler.

ours is Aure's Crystal Rainbow, lynn the owner is amazing...you can ask her anything, she can tell you or point you to where you need to go to find it.  She knows her stuff.

I'm lucky because I live in a big city so I can find anything I need, we have stores that sell herbs, others that sell pagan supplies, witchcraft supplies, natural medicine stores etc...all that you need for pagan living and witchcraft!  :-D

"Urban Primitive: Paganism in the Concrete Jungle" - By Raven Kaldera & Tannin Schwartzstein
A decent book for the urban pagan. It covers triple god/ triple goddess, death magic, urban totems, etc. Basically a really good cover-all if you're looking for the basics.

"City Magick: Urban rituals, spells and shamanism" - By Christopher Penczak
More of an intermediate book on the above subject. It gets into more abstract concepts like divas, the Invisible Worlds, sigils signs and grafitti spells. Better than Urban Primitive in my opinion.

"Shaman in a 9 to 5 World" - By Patricia Telesco
The basics of shamanism as applied to modern city living. I like this book a lot. It's basic and open-minded, allowing you to really tailor it to your personal beliefs and your daily life.

Aww dang... here I thought I was Mr. Kool saving the day... or the thread.... or both? :-D

Actually... while I'm in this thread (I was originally going to post it as a new topic, but I guess that's not necessary)...

A few years back, I found this great mineral in this curio shop that was alleged to help align your chakras.  So I picked one up and felt my whole spiritual body snap like a rubber band right back into place. It was absolutely amazing.  I felt GREAT the whole rest of the day and well into the week.  Unfortunately, I didn't have the capitol to pick one up at that moment (it was only a couple of bucks, but I was completely strapped), and I can't seem to remember the name of the mineral to save my skin....  It was kind of a gray-brown, had a fibrous kind of look like Mica or shale, and there were streaks/flecks of other colors within it (green, red, and blue, mostly).  They were sold in slivers about the size of my pinkie finger.

Any ideas what it might be?

i've been trying to talk my friend who's not much of a people person and really rather antisocial in coming here, she's amaizng with knowing stones and their magickal properties...she's literally spent thousands of dollars collecting a variety of rocks and minerals from around the world and the books to go with them... :-o

she's pretty good with herbs too...she's one of those people sick with memory and a consumate bibliophile.

Sounds like chalcopyrite to me. Could be wrong, but...

Is that it?

that picture doesn't look right... although it might just be a larger version of the shards they were selling...

The stuff I found was almost fibrous - long, thin strands running parallell. Mostly brown with only minor traces of those other colors... any ideas?

she went through a process of elimination, this was the only mineral she did not know about that dealt with chakras

Apophylite

being a soft mineral it could easily be broken into any size or shape, but crystals seem most popular, it also seems to have many different variations

*shrugs*

do you think it's that easy...;)

"it may have been an andalusite crystal, which sliced display a cross pattern are
called cross stones (different from fairy crosses). "

"Hi sis, went to the Tree of Life store and asked Dianna what she
thought it may be.  She read the descripition and suggested Kyanite.  Went on
line and looked most of what I saw was more bluish than anything else
but the shape was about right."

she's thorough.   :-D

I would also suggest taking a look at astrophyllite.

Yep, we've got a lot of options here.

Coyote teeth - Brings good luck to travelers, especially artists of any kind. The Trickster looks kindly upon those in limbo, traversing the area between Here and There, and is especially fond of creative people, thus carrying the teeth of his sacred animal will lead him to give you his blessing.
