General rules!
*some should be plain common sense.  ;)

Timing is everything
Many spells work more effectively on a cycle, the moon (http://monstrous.com/forum/index.php?topic=3544.0) being most common.
Casting a spell during the new moon works for gaining and objective, like a new love.
Waiting for the full moon is the perfect time to work your magic for getting rid of something, like your ex.
Every detail, including timeing can only help you in the casting of spells.
You have the advantage when you customize spells.
By using your personal power, spells becoming more effective and powerful.
Aside from the magic of the spell itself, your active participation is an important ingredient in achieving the outcome you desire.
Only you can truly make your spell a success.
Believing in the power of the spell and proceeding with it honestly is the only way to cast a spell.
If you truly don't believe in it or don't really desire, the outcome of the spell...don't do it
Proceed only with postitivity, the magic aligns with this energy to bring about your heart's desire.
A negatie outlook will only work against the spell.
Casting a spell means being responsible for the outcome; always remember to be careful what you wish for.
As a last, but most important rule!

Never perform magic you do not fully understand, you might just end up with a frog, rather than a prince.

coming up next...The elements of the spells.
Title: necessary elements for love
Post by: jordyn on August 11, 2006, 04:41:45 PM
In collecting yoru spell's ingredients, remember the nature of your spell, love.

red represents passion, desire and lust
pink represents affection, romance and gentleness
white is for purity

Always be prepared because you never know when a magical moment might come about.
Create a magical space, having a clean and private space is ideal to achiever harmony and positive energy for casting any successful spell.
Each spell is unique and requires different elements, most common for love; Rose scented oil, flowers red pencil and paper.
You might even consider having the four elements  to help keep out negative energy, a perfect envrionment for a perfect spell.
Love yourself and live for love!

*add to and change as seems fitting your personal situation.

Take everything you possess of your past relationships and place in a box.  bind the box with a black ribbon to never be opened again and repeat 3 times

"When one box is closed, another is opened"

bury it and forget it, set your mind on what lays ahead.

That woman is just a breathe of positivity isn't she... I want to shoot her.

Nothing in what she says hints at the possible sifde effects and danger inherent in love spells. Not to mention no cautioning about Casting it ON People, and what it will do to them.

I don't count "Never perform magic you do not fully understand, you might just end up with a frog, rather than a prince." as a warning it sounds more like a light hearted suggestion in context of everything else she is saying. And I mean what person who wants love from someone in general or in desire, is going to wait around and read up on it when they can use her vague intructions to get what they believe they want and think they deserve.
People live and die by "gratification now, I'll worry about being in trouble later."

Yeah but people have a choice to do or not! And why are you attacking her for?

Lack of proper instruction, people are just going to go to Heidi Van Winkle and expect it to all be happy-go-lucky no one gets hurt kinda of thing were reality is love spells in most cases turn on the caster, especially if they have a human focus. Humans resent being made into Toys even magically and always find a way to express it.
Title: bad things can happen if you work against another's will. *slaps hands*

i'll start with a "love yourself first, before you can love another" sort of spell next time?

love should be the law of the "land", in my opinion...and if a person truly loves someone, they would wish the best for them, no matter how badly they made you hurt or want, if they go against another's will, it rarely turns out well.  I hope people would think of that before attempting any "love spell"  magic is a mental state, if you don't have the mentallity for it, than don't pursue it.

on that note...

the yarrow lovespell

Take the leaves of the yarrow, which is the maidens herb and a blessing for mothers and all women, having qualities that comfort, heal and protect.  Tickle the inside of the nostrils, murmuring to yourself this old country charm.

Green yarrow, green yarrow, you bear a white bow,
If you love me, love me, my nose will bleed now,
If my love don't love me, it own't bleed a drop,
If my love do love me, 'twill bleed every drop.

I personally suggest avoiding them all together most people don't know what they want to get let alone put it down for a spell. Then there is that whole hidden fears and emotions that always end up buried in the spell.

i find if a person readies themself to find and keep love, the rest falls into place...that requires faith, not necessarily magick.

you just don't quit do you?     :-*

it should be, but sadly so many people seem to expect they can wave some magick wand and have the perfect love manifest...what they fail to understand that while magick may work and bring them what they'd perceive as their perfect partner, it can't make it a happy relationship...only the people involved can do that, and if they're not ready for what's required, or fail to understand the needs of a serious relationship...then they'll never have one.

that's why the first love spells should be self improvement, prepping themselves to receive love before diving in and thinking just because they wished for the person it'll all work out...love isn't easy.

For once, I agree.

Love Charm: To draw love into your life, cut a three by three inch square of aluminum foil. All metals have attractive properties, and work much like a lightening rod which draws electricity from the atmosphere. Sprinkle a pinch each of dried parsley, rosemary, and thyme onto the center of the foil. Carefully fold the foil to keep the herbs sealed inside. Keep it against your heart to attract loving energies to yourself.

No. Love spells are evil. They try to take control and manipulate a person. Which is BAD.

intent makes something evil...you are not necessarily trying to manipulate or take control of anyone, you could just be trying to attract something to you. a common misconception about what magick is about..
