hello.
my friends and I have been wanting to do a spell or ritual for quite some time now. I have read the required reading posts and such.we do not wish to do it for sex,wealth or power and we don't wish to do it just for fun.we have a few questions on this topic that  we were hoping a few people could clear up...
 
should it be outside at night?

is a 'cleansing' ritual at all or even vaguely possible?

should we call to the elements? -- if so should we have candles and/or objects to represent them?

is it always necessary to call a spirit to protect your circle? --- if it is then is there a certain spirit/god/goddess that would be the best.

would it be extremely dangerous to cast a circle or do a spell that only involves the elements ( not including spirits)


do the objects you using need to be cleansed? objects such as candles etc etc..

are there spells to help with safety? not just safety of your circle but safety in life itself.

if it should be held outside where would the best place to hold it be? on grass , pavement, in a forest....

in order to answer some of these questions, we need to know what the spell is for. Much of these change variables change depending on the intent and ritual you are performing. Also depends on what group you are in and what religion because there is a difference even within the wiccan, pagan, and new age world. Give us more information and we can help you a bit more. there is a way that you can answer these questions for yourself thats will be more powerful than anyone telling you.
 In fact the act of asking these questions in the way i will outline is excellent preparation for what you want to achieve.

Find a quiet place away from all distractions. A place where you feel comfortable and know you will not be bothered for a while.
Take your first question and think about it. Hold it in your heart and mind. Really feel the question through you. Ask this question in all sincerity and know that if you ask in this way, the magical, spiritual, mysterious side of you will feel the answer.

You will have to be very quiet and sensitive to recieve the answer to the question. But if you are, your body will know the answer intuitively. Somehow the answer just comes to you. Its always like this.

Ask yourself all these questions in this way and you will be directly touching the magic you want to make. The magic itself will pull you and tell you how to make it.
