The reason you don't see any news on this project after 2005 is that what they are doing is in direct violation of the rules set down by the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee. In order for them to legally conduct this procedure on dogs they would have to apply for permission including a full write up of every step they plan to do. They would also have to provide research supporting their plans as being possible. Then it would have to be done on "lower" life forms such as frogs, rats, mice. Only after the committee has reviewed & approved the results would they be allowed to try the procedure on canines, felines, or chimps.

My soul drew back guilty of dust and sin.

my theory is when something dies, what makes him/her is gone, i guess a soul for lack of better term. The machine that was the body has shut down and will begin to destroy itself. If we halt this destruction and restart the machine, its not like the "soul" will be dragged back to it. It may have moved on to another form of life aka another machine.
The restarted body/machine is just that a machine. It will do what the mechanics need and has no sense of the "proper" way to get them. It sees what it needs and goes after it, and *poof* zombie.

Well that all depends on the way you look at it, really. If you put the soul into consideration it really is problematic, but if you think about it the way a scientist would, the soul is nothing but brain waves and neural impulses with a personality registered in it kind of like an operating system on a computer. I'm not sure which one I believe...

People who are enslaved by their desires and obsessions are already like that. All the memories the specimen has acumulated will play some part in its behaviour.
CHess champion zombie anyone?

well cellular memory has been proven to be real its completely possible for the body to do the things its body remembers. Though how long the memory lasts...not so sure.

I don't see how someone could be brought back and still be them. Whether or not you believe in a 'soul' there's still personality and that spark that makes someone who they are. How would that still be there when they die??

Well if you don't believe in the soul, it means you believe in the scientific interpretation of personality: In a way, your personality is just how your brain interacts with its surroundings according to past experiences, etc. In a other words, a dead body doesn't lose its personality unless the brain is badly damaged and/or decomposed.

I believe we have souls, I put that addendum there for anyone else. I don't see how you can bring the soul back after a living thing has been dead. I don't see how the dog would be the same dog. A dog in name only.
