Downey Jr. to Play the Vampire Lestat!
Source:Bloody-Disgusting
August 14, 2009
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Universal Pictures is going to reboot Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles" and is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort!
Lestat was previously played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 adaptation of Rice's Interview with the Vampire, which co-starred Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst. Stuart Townsend later played Lestat in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned, which co-starred Aaliyah and took elements from the author's "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned."
The series of novels also includes "The Tale of the Body Thief," "Memnoch the Devil," "The Vampire Armand," "Pandora," "Merrick," "Blood and Gold," "Blackwood Farm" and "Blood Canticle."
Downey Jr. recently wrapped Iron Man 2 and has Sherlock Holmes arriving on Christmas Day.

It makes me laugh too
I would rather see Tom Cruse return as Lestat, he did better than I thought he would in interview, actually IMO it was a pretty good cast overall

Yeah... casting Downey, Jr. in that role is going to make it into one big flop. Personally, I thought Townsend pulled it off better than any of them. I've read most of the books, and he's the only they've cast that comes anywhere near pulling off that French arrogance that is so absolutely vital to playing that character.

I can't stand Tom Cruise! He's just... ineffective. Too gay to be taken seriously.
I liked Townsend at Lestat. He pulled it off well.

I loved how Tom Cruise delivered as Lestat. He was arrogant and made me despise him.I'm not a Tom Cruise fan,so it worked for me.

Nah. Lestat was FRENCH, we have a brand of arrogance all our own that Tom "Save me from Xenu" Cruise just can't manage.

I'm a huge NONfan of Loenardo DiCaprio, but I loved him in "The Aviator".... however, Tom Cruise just didn't do it for me. Brad Pitt Did a great job, as did the rest of the cast in that movie, but Cruise is just too ineffectual for me. He's not a bit enough presence.

Tom Cruise will do to this movie what G. W. Bush did to America.

The man can't even act like it's not a gerbil that's crammed sideways up his butt... at least Brad "hehehehehe I married teh Toom Rader" Pitt can do that... sometimes anyway.

I can't stand Brad Pitt nor Tom Cruise.I will say that Cruise's tightass acting came out well in "Interview with the vampire"and I really like Brad Pitt's acting in that flick as well.I normally dislike them both...anyone see "Legend"?

Yeah, I saw "Legend" as a kid... and always wondered where he kept that unicorn horn until he got back to the unicorn... then I grew up, saw him in another movie, and it dawned on me - he shoved the horn up his butt and carried it that way... Though he must've kept the prop... and tried the stunt again, because he acts like it's still stuck in his butt - sideways.
