To test our ideas out, I'm planning a role play in the gaming section.
One team to play the part of the survivors and another to be the various dangers that come which would not be limited to zombies.
Depending on the variety of possible scenarios  i might even ask you to create more than one character. One for each senario.

I would pick a building that was already standing, then strengthen it, preferably with sheets of steal, but you would have to weld them together, so you would have to have a good generator and some gas,

to me the perfect place to start would be some store named something like this  "Bobs guns and ammo, liquers, hardware, grocery, gas and discount cigeret outlet"

oh, and for you non belevers, there are such places as that here in the south

  Ah the south. They seem to have everything a person could possible want at one location. Thank god for stores like the Piggy Wiggly, The Golden Gallon,  And Doug's Ammo.  Were you can buy food, gas, ammo, cigarettes, bait and much more all in one place. Were survival isn't an option it's a life style  . Don't for get to pick up your buy one get one free MRE's  .....
