Title: Judgement Day: May 21, 2011?
Post by: AWBrielle on May 16, 2011, 01:13:42 pm
Some Christian groups are under the assumption that this Saturday at six PM (time zone not provided) will be Judgement Day. Now, obviously I can't know that for a fact - in fact, I HIGHLY doubt it - but just thought I'd share.

Quote
A radical Christian group has determined that the beginning of the end of the world will occur this week. But is their math correct?

Most of us roll our eyes and pass on carefree when we stumble across an apocalypse theory. But Family Radio has been proclaiming May 21, 2011 as the veritable Judgment Day, and it's been getting a lot of attention. How could they come up with such a specific date? NewsFeed crunched the numbers to see if their calculations could indeed signal the second coming of Christ, using passages from the New International Version of the Bible.

The Bible lists very few specific dates for events, so calculating the precise Judgment Day is a daunting task indeed. It takes a healthy leap of faith to take the Family Radio summation as fact, but if indeed their numbers are correct - and their Biblical evidence stands true -- Judgment Day could indeed be upon us Saturday.

Read the rest here (believe me, it's pretty interesting): http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/05/16/by-the-numbers-how-may-21-2011-was-calculated-to-be-judgment-day/#ixzz1MY3TVSJJ (http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/05/16/by-the-numbers-how-may-21-2011-was-calculated-to-be-judgment-day/#ixzz1MY3TVSJJ)

For me, hell is not being able to realize dreams.... loneliness is hell too... so death would come as a blessing, and to stand in front of God to be judged once and for all, is best conclusion one can hope for.

This is nothing new for this crack pot.  He has after all predicted other "Judgment Day" proclamations in the past.  He is right here in New Jersey.  I noticed his billboard on the third day I was here as I was taking my family to see the Ocean.  I almost ran off the road I was laughing so hard!  Here is a local piece about it.  I cannot wait for the news crews to stop by on the following day.

Well I personally think that this is not going to happen. I doubt May 21st of 2011 (or any year) is judgement day. I am unsure how some bible believers can follow this, when there is a verse that states, no one knows when it will happen. But maybe that was a mistranslation and it really reads: "no one knows, except for this guy". In which case we better get on our knees and repent.

In all seriousness, so what if it is true? What would you do instead of your normal activities?

I do not see the word rapture in the bible and the bible can be interpreted many ways. The son of god was a righteous man and to get off the earth he had to suffer for three days on the cross. Then after that, he went to hell. So thinking we are above this sort of treatment may be a little narcissistic.

However, if we do go to hell, we should search for employment opportunities.  <^>

my earlier comment was made in joke now to be serious for a moment

source: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/preachers-prophesying-end-world-york-000338169.html (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/preachers-prophesying-end-world-york-000338169.html)

Quote
"According to Genesis, when the flood occurred in the year 4990, God told Noah that in seven days he would destroy the earth," Manny explained. "And he destroyed it in seven days.

"But Peter said: 'I know that one day for me is like a thousand years.' So 4990 plus 7001 years (the equivalent of seven days) equals 2011," he explained.

"But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone"
Mark 13:32
Matthew 24:36

so how did they come to the 21st of may?

also if 1000 years is a day to god then why is there an extra 1 there?

also 4990 + 7001 = 11,991 that is not 2011
even if you change that to what they believe to be 1000:1 4990 is closer to 5 then it comes out to 12

on top of this they predict only 200,000,000 people will be 'saved'

Quote
According to the Bible, only 200 million people will be saved" this time, Manny said.

they also state that an earthquake will mark the beginning of judgement day, things is earthquakes don't just simply happen there are signs such as:

Quote
Thermal precursor: A few months before the occurrence of an earthquake the average temperature of the area keeps increasing.

Water precursor: There is a sudden rise or fall in water level in the wells.

There is a sudden and rapid increase or decrease of water flow in the river

Seismo-electromagnetic precursor: This is a very reliable precursor. It occurs and is exhibited about 10 to 20 hours before the quake.

Animal precursor: It is seen that 10 to 20 hours before the occurrence of an earthquake, the entire animal kingdom becomes highly disturbed and restless.

Human precursor: Doctors and nurses observe that some sensitive patients in hospitals become highly disturbed.

source:http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_signs_that_an_earthquake_might_happen_quite_soon

on top of this earthquakes are extremely rare in locations that are not near the tectonic plate fault line.

all in all, my opinion is that these people are WRONG, and undoubtedly when they see Sunday morning they will make up another date for this event to happen.

I'm not sure where the number 200 million comes from. The book of revelation in the bible, talks about two groups of 144,000. It also does not say these groups will be protected or that there will be a rapture.

If someone can provide me with counter verses of scripture that validate this scenario, please provide them. I would love to have some verses that support this, but as of now I am unaware of any.

I doubt believing the rapture will happen on may 21st will get you raptured anyway. The bible is firm on believing the son of god died for your sins. So my point is that even if you don't know the flight number, you know the destination. (my god that was awful... I am so sorry for that metaphor..)

I am checking this group out and I will see if I find any solid support.

Well, I haven't been Christian in a while, so I'm certainly not one of the "saved."

These days, I define Christianity as the religion that is too busy worshipping a great teacher to actually put into act his teachings. Christians, I've come to slowly realize, demean themselves to the point of slavery and believe that in comparison to this great teacher, they are nothing and worth nothing. They believe that only this teacher can save the world and that they are incapable of helping to salvage the world themselves. This is why you see so many Christians anxious for the end of the world on May 21st. They believe that this "final judgement" is the only way.

St. Francsis of Assisi, and Emiliy D. (really great poet) were Christians who were the opposite of this. They understood that they were as capable as this teacher and tried to make a difference in the world. There are many Christians, as those two would, who find this May 21st thing completely rediculous and mind-boogling. The church holds high contempt for these Christians in general because they are prone to questioning everything, whereas the church doesn't want you to question anything of their 2000 year old dogma.

If the western cities were under a theocracy of Chirstianity, we would likely be in the same situation as many places in the east are. Granted, we wouldn't be killing everyone that doesn't believe in the churches dogma (unless you are George W. Bush) but we would be a much more primitive society than we already are, too afraid to advance in technology, for fear of "angering the lord."

But I guess I'm going off topic now...

Isn't it kind of wrong to assume that, by not being christian, you are automatically not "saved"? Still, if/when the end comes, it will have been well deserved.

I'm not one of the "saved" in the eyes of those Christians out there awaiting the rapture. I don't very much subscribe to Heaven/Hell anymore anyway. The magazine is way too expensive on it's own and the S&H just kills it.

This is just my perspective, but I think Heaven is a carrot on a stick that prods people into Christianity, while Hell is the psychological means of scaring people into never abandoning Christianity.

No one could believe a forgiving God would send one indefinitely to one of the most unpleasant places conceived. And yet... 1/3 of the population does.

Whether the end is deserved depends on how much humanity has evolved when the end does come for them. In either case, the end will be a tradgedy.

A few problems here. First, you're making assumptions about all Christians awaiting the rapture. (I am not one of them, nor am I Christian for that matter, but still). Second, you are also implying that "Heaven" and "Hell" are places allotted to Christianity alone.

Just sayin'.

That said, I'm not sure we as humans have the capability to understand what The End will be, or how it will come into play, or when.

The first point, granted; those assumptions probably aren't true for all of those Christians but it's still rediculous. As for the second point, it was an accident if I made that implication. A lot of religions have Heaven or Hell, whether it's called Heaven/Hell or Cheese Land/Homework Room.

As for the end? It will be an alien hot war, unless we get really lucky.

Anyway, there is no point in complaining or anything. We only have one day to live regardless, so let's all make it count.

Live every day as if it were your last!

Wow, so what makes you think an alien hot war? Personally, I'm leaning more towards being the creators of our own destruction.

Don't take my word for it, I don't know, but there are currently several (14 or 15 since the year 2000) alien factions on the planet. 8 of those factions abduct humans (but not every "abductee" is telling the truth) and 3 of those factions are "hostile" towards us.

Those movies that depict alien invaders are a bit inaccurate, however, because they'd perfer to take us down through "natural" disasters and social corruption. I believe one of those hostile races currently "own" the US government. Gnostics refer to these guys as the Archons.

It sounds simple enough... aliens have been doing it since day one to humans... convincing us they were divine gods (sometimes not on purpose). The Archons make the highest echelons of the elite (I don't know any of the elites names; it's not Rothschild or Rockfella like some people say) believe that they, the Archons, are gods and that the elite have a "divine mission."

The goverment, humorously enough, is aware of alien existence on the planet. They just do what the elite tell them, though. I really don't have a clue, and yes, it's up to humans to stand up to the elite and governments that the elite hire. Whether it's an alien hot war or ourselves, it usually swings back to us for not doing anything about it.

Anyway, speaking of "natural" disasters, I wonder if an earthquake happens today at around 6:00 pm to scare everyone?

Oh, happy doomsday!

I would like to take this time to say the judgement day is here. We only have seven hours and twenty minutes until tomorrow.

What will we ever do?

In my potential last time, I have been enjoying Anime, Manga and other outlets of electronic stimulation. I don't really care if it is the end of the world or not.

We shall do what everyone else is, we will wait and see. If this guy happens to be right then I will admit I am wrong. But as of right now, I doubt it.

I would have been bamboozled if you said otherwise.  It'd be rediculous to get offended since I foresaw that response even when I was typing the previous post.

@Nina - Yes, maybe in another topic. All I know is that there is something beyond what most humans currently know. I usually hang on these sort of forums (conspiracies, paranormal, etc) because people here are much more receptive to it than say... mall-dwellers that reflect only on the latest episode of Jersey Shore.  %*)

@onepiece - I was out herping (catching lizards and such). I took one into my house and almost right at 6 pm central, the guy jumps out of my hand and scampers out of room. Luckily, I did find him pretty quickly and returned him to his rightful place in the outdoors.   8-)

I also learned to never sell your property just because someone claims the world's going to end. I'm sure Pastor Camping is going to get the finger pointed all at him, but those individuals that sold their property have no one to blame but theirselves. I kind of feel sorry for them... :-(
