Johnny Depp Enters Dark Shadows
Source: Variety
July 26, 2007
Warner Bros. is teaming with Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King's GK Films to develop a feature based on the '60s supernatural TV show "Dark Shadows."
According to Variety, Depp has always been obsessed with "Dark Shadows" and had, as a child, wanted to be Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series. The role was originated by Jonathan Frid.
Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

I am not a Depp fan
But after watching the last 2 pirates movie, I believe he could pull it off and make a good Barnabus Collins
-
Depp's a good actor, despite the overhype. It will probably be a decent movie. However, I have objections to his possible role as Syd Barrett in an upcoming film...
Leonardo Dicaprio is set to play Timothy Leary in a different production...
-
I am not one to pick an actor on basis of looks, money... etc... My mother read an article where Johnny Depp was talking about it, I guess he's a hard core Dark Shadows fan... and who better to play a character than someone who already knows the role.
-
Dark Shadows is one of the few series I have not seen so this will be a new expierence for me to watch... My mom is a big Depp fan so I am going to have to watch it. I did like his one movie "The Ninth Gate".
-
Depp is the king of playing strange roles in films I believe that he will make a decent Barnabus but I am afraid that the new ability to use CG FX will slightly take away from the original greatness of the series which was done live and with on the fly FX.

I'm a huje JD fan! I love that guy and the fact he wants to play a vamp freakin rocks! I think Iremember that old show, I'll have to check it out and see if its the one I remember

Burton, August & Depp Reteam on Dark Shadows
Source: IESB.net
June 2, 2008
IESB.net has learned, via an interview with director Peter Segal, that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and "Corpse Bride" team of Tim Burton, John August and Johnny Depp are reuniting for Dark Shadows.
Burton will reportedly direct the Warner Bros. feature based on the '60s supernatural TV show from a script by August. Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and GK Films are producing and Depp has had interest in playing Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

Right up our alley  Can't wait!
-
Alan Rickman used to be first on my list of favorite actors, but now it's JD since the pirate series.
Johnny in "Dark Shadows" is gonna be very entertaining.^^
-
God, can't there be a single movie with dark themes that doesn't have Johnny Depp playing the main character?
I'll cry if they actually go through with casting Mr. Depp as Barnabas Collins.
-
With Depp in the film and Burton directing it makes it pretty certain that they will get a lot of attention for the film.
-
Cant wait for that! :-D
-
Tim Burton better not be directing it.
Don't get me wrong, he's a talented man, but for the love of god all he does is take things and turn them goofy and goth-ified. Sweeney Todd was an excellent play, then Mr. Burton got his grubby little fingers on it and made it a musical dramedy, instead of a plain musical drama. He does that with everything else too.
Except for Planet Of The Apes, but the studio did all the work on that and just needed a director stupid enough to work on a project like that so they could use the name to market it.
Anyway, Dark Shadows is a serious, though cheesy, drama, and I can see Tim Burton turning it into one great big goof-fest.

:-o BLASPHEMY!!

In case you can't tell by my avatar, I adore Johnny Depp. I would love to see him in this role....as well as a few others

This sounds like it's going to be good. Do they have a release date yet?
