If you read through the Monstropaedia on them, and through this topic area, you'll find that Disney is entirely wrong. What Disney, and consequently most people, regard as 'fairies', are actually, unless I'm mistaken, pixies. But, the true appearance of the Fey isn't marketable to the younger generations, so, they had to make them all pretty and harmless looking.

Well, here's the thing you see. This site didn't get as big and important (on the net, according to Google), by not being sloppy and slack. You can pretty well rest assured that most of the folks here know, or knew, what they're talking about.

ofcourse ofcourse i never meant to say that this site wasnt right, but, for the people who have seen them, what exactly did they see?

As I've said, go through this topic area. Descriptions from a certain former staff member who saw them multiple times, first-hand, abound within it.

P.S. You may as well get used to this form of reasoning from me. I nearly always encourage others to do their own research. The nearly exclusive exception being in areas where they cannot, or where it would do them harm to come into direct or other contact with such knowledge unprepared. Such as when dealing with demons and their kin. A lay person would actually do themselves more harm than good by researching such things. Whereas someone with more experience and more than a little training may navigate through such things in a slightly safer way.

In this case, research into the Fey is alright, so long as you don't attempt contact. So, by all means, rummage through the threads here and see what you can see. You may actually find some of my earliest posts in here, from all those many months ago.

mkay, thanks moloch, i know what u mean about it being better for people to do things for themselves as opposed to other people doing it for them

Moloch is correct, as I am quickly discovering is usually the case. The market friendly "fairies" are in fact Pixies. There are literally thousands of species of Fey each with their own look. Moloch is also correct in warning you not to contact. All Fey love to play pranks on humans & many are not exactly nice creatures.

What I don't understand is the difference between faeries, elves, pixies, & such. A long time ago when I first became interested I tried looking it up myself. But all the info I got just blurred them all together into one lump sum. So how does one go about separating it all? :?

A lot of it is semantics, one region's faerie could be another's pixie. Generally however the distinctions are based on appearance & habitat. Over the years "fairy" has come to be a general term for all the "pretty" wee folk. A good book to check out is "A Witch's Guide to the Fairy Folk" it lists & describes just about every type of Fey.

You know how you look the way you look because of genetics?
That is, certain factors come together to form ohow you look to others.
Well, here's the thing.
All faeries, and retty much all spiritual beings in general, naturally exist in a form incomprehendable to the human mind. However, when they choose to manifest themselves in a way we understand, they can only take certain forms. Maybe just one form, maybe 50 forms. But there's a limit, and it's determined by how much energy the possess and what sort of energy it is.
But they can choose not to take this form.
Hopefully this is a better explanation:
If you chose to draw self-portrait, as you percieve yourself, it wouldn't necessarily have to actually reflect anything about what you look like. You could draw yourself as a furry, in an anime/cartoon style, or as a freaking bright red sneaker. Either way, it represents you if you choose to let it. It's the same way with faeries. When they manifest here, they're drawing themselves into our world. They can choose to take nay form possible for them, and the same way the ultimate artist could draw anything in any style, and extremely powerful spirit could manifest as anything it wants.
You see?

That makes total sense. OMG... does that mean I'm as crazy as you are, needly?? 'Cause if it does....... that's awesome.

Seriously though.. I'm just learning that there are so many sides to them. Different groups and such. It's very confusing at times.

There are many many thousands of fey races. May things may influence their appearance. but something to remeber is that some beings will actually choose how they appear to a certain person based on that person's preconceived notion of what they should look like. So, if you think something look's a certain way, that may just be the way they appear to you, this could help explain some of the confusion around the different groups. Like I said, a lot is semantics.
