Not really, you need to remember, the majority of religions borrow from oters all the time.  Now there may actually be something to the trinity that was understood in the beginning, but you know mankind, now it means whatever the hell we want it to mean.

hmmmm i must agree but that leaves one question why doesnt the great one above have three equally great noodly appendages
or does his great noodly appendage manifests itself in three dimensions  astral, physical and mental?

Ill make it kinda simple, because I could write more than most would wont to read, that and different tribes have different, but similar beliefs.

The cherokee name for god is promounced Yee Ho Wah. "thats not the way its actually spelled," and concistes of three very seperate intitys. They never argue or anything like alot of greek gods, and gods in other religiouns, but all have there own seperate dutys.
but they are not 1 god with three seperate parts like in christianity.

most think nature is worshiped in native american culture, and that is not to far from true in a way, and like I said all tribes are different, even different tribes from the same natioun.

My Grandfather on my Dads side was full blooded cherokee,
I was lucky enough to get pretty close to him for about three years before he died,
he taught me alot, mostly usefull things for survival, but I also learned alot about the
religiouns and myths.

My Great Grandfather on my mothers side was half souix, I never knew him, but from what I have heard he was crazy, he killed a guy and was hung for it.

Yould never know it by looking at me though. Both my sisters look like native americans,
but me and my brother not a bit.

Do you live in a reservation or something? I'm not being racist, just curious.Do you really have a shaman?
Title: Re: three
Post by: ravinclaw on June 26, 2009, 10:21:06 AM
No I dont live on a reservatioun.
I dont have a shaman either, but I know one, met him through my Grandfather, I met alot of interesting people through him.
Im not saying I believe in cherokee religioun either, I just think its important to know where we came from.

I wouldent have taken that as racism anyway,
Im proud of my heritage, I think we all should be,
regardless of what it is.
and I dont mind a bit answering questiouns about it,
so if you have more, feel free to ask.

how exactly do shamans or native american religious figures go about there training are they self taught and converse with others
or do they go by a apprentice ship method?
Title: Re: three
Post by: ravinclaw on June 26, 2009, 03:37:51 PM
Well its sort of an apprentice ship,
but one has to be born with "The Gift"

they are usually recognized at birth by the shaman,
then he takes them under his wing.

The child will be put through a series of tests and training

Are there any description as to what king of a gift IS the  'Gift'?
I mean, does he sense it on psychic level, does it manifest it self as a birthmark, abnormal pigmentation, etc?

Well, I dont know eactly what the "gift" is, but shaman can usually speak to the spirits of the dead, including animals. well, from what Ive heard anyway.

Usually one of the children of a shaman will become a shaman, but it dosent always work that way, my Grandfather said some tribes can go for years after a shaman has died, without a new one, In that case I guess when a new one is born, he has to learn alot on his own.

Im still learning about the spiritual end of this stuff.

What part of the U.S. are you coming to?

A shaman will talk to just about anyone in nead of help, and will answer some questiouns about his practices, but alot of things are kept secret. Certain knowledge can only be earned.

It's because Americans are stupid and think that they can just mix and match all relgions and misuse everything. I am sorry I have a lot of respect for Native American culture and relgions. We have just been horrible so I understand why they do that.

But yes Devinoir it really depends on where your at in the states because shamans are not everywhere. So where are you going?

I don't know yet, I'm an exchange student and a host family is going to pick me, so it's pracrtically anywhere.
Where do the most tribes dwell?
Title: Re: three
Post by: ravinclaw on June 30, 2009, 08:48:41 AM
All over really, but they are few and far between, relitivly speaking.

The closest reservation to me is about a three hour drive.

some tribes are freindlier that others, Cherokee are prety hospitable to outsiders, cant really speak for any other tribes.

im assuming that the gift in this case would be the susceptibility to being posessed or a adeptness at shamanism
