Paranormal State
« on: December 21, 2007, 10:17:49 PM »
So this show comes on A&E, Monday in the evening. So far I like it, but I'm suspicious of a oh so conspicuous "dramatic flare" element that networks love to pump into their Ghost Hunting shows. The reason for this is that the team's leader comes of a young though wise religious man, which I have no problems with, but he for whatever reason didn't know who Belial was (this could possibly go to the Demonology area, but I thought It pertained more to ghost hunting). Also, for some reason they name Belial was bleeped out throughout the show, but they'd flash it periodically letter-by-letter for a creepy effect. Now I'm not saying  it's impossible for someone to have not heard of such a name that is usually on par with Satan and Lucifer, but for someone who calls himself a top-notch paranormal researcher who seems to think he can go toe-to-toe with inhuman hauntings, but doesn't know a name like BELIAL, seems sorta fishy. I'm still going to give these guys a chance, I need something to hold me over until the new seasons of Ghost Hunters. But I would like to ask one thing. Has anyone else seen the show and perhaps noticed something out of wack?

It does sound fishy to me that he would would make such claims to his stature, and not know something so simple as the name Belial. Also, the network's behavior concerning the name are odd too. I really can't understand why they'd do that.

There's an entry on him in the Monstropaedia. If anyone reading this does not already know who this entity is, you may look him up there. He is located under the heading of "Demons".

I think this show is actually pretty cool.  They don't really have the technical sides like Ghost Hunters, but the research about the cases, and cleansings that they perform are pretty cool.  I also love that they're college students.  Hell, if I have my own t.v. show, while I'm in college, about ghost hunting, I'd consider myself pretty successful so far!

It has been..... I would say OK, but from what I have seen so far, there is never any good evidence gathered to say these places have/are haunted

I started watching Paranormal State after my best friend recommended it to me, claiming it to be absolutely the greatest show on television. But I have noticed that, while it is entertaining, I don't think it really has much credibility in the way of paranormal research, which is supposed to be their goal. For example, I don't really trust all the psychics that have been brought on the show to help out with the cases. I'm not saying that psychics aren't real, or that I don't believe in them, but the truth is  that there are so many fake psychics out there that there can really be no way to tell whether someone who claims to be is really a psychic or not. And they're banking entire cases on  these 'psychics.' I think what really bothered me was the last episode I saw, the one about the haunted piano? They were saying that before they got the piano, they never had a problem with mice, but once they got it, mice were all over their house. Well, there could have been just one mouse that had hidden in the piano, or even a nest of baby mice. Mice breed like crazy, so their house would be crawling with mice fairly quickly. And they really didn't need to chop the piano up - in fact, if my memory serves me, they were talking about how they shouldn't destroy the piano for fear of angering whatever was supposedly attached to it. Yet  they chopped it up anyway. All they really needed to do was bury it, if there really was an evil spirit attached to it. Chopping it up was just to add drama, in my  opinion.

Wow,  that was a really long tangent. My point is, the goal of Paranormal State is to research the paranormal. I'm a believer, and they haven't got me convinced at all. I don't think the show would have any effect whatsoever on a non-believer.

Paranormal shows seem to be very popular now, possilbly becuase of Ghost Hunters, but channels are putting them on.  Also, being reality shows they aren't that expensive to produce.

paranormal state is an interesting show no doubt.  but it always leaves me wondering if it is actually real or not.  perhaps it is just because the team on the show doesnt have as much equipment like GH but to me it reminds me of destination truth and that show feels extremly fake to me.  but never the less paranormal state is still interesting to watch.

I definitely agree that the team behind Paranormal State is inexperienced at best, and outright fraudulent at worst.
They lack basic, fundamental knowledge that's required to study the paranormal with any level of skill.

WOW

You better be sitting down for this one Kreepy, I agree with you  :-o

I can't stand that guy Chip, IMO he is such a fake, every place has evil and everyone is possessed...what a quack

So much he is not even believable, this show would be much more believable if they did not have him in it
