Farenheit 451, 1984, Animal Farm. All books about what could happen to society and life as we know it. what some people don't realize is that these what ifs could really be happeing slowly. censorship is running rampant and in the wrong places, people are watching you, waiting for you to slip up and conditions aren't improving.

"War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorace is strength." 1984, George Orwell
" 'tis now the witching time of night,
when churchyards yawn and hell itself breaths out contagion to this world,
now, could I drink hot blood, and do such bitter business as the day would quake to look on."
~Hamlet

I enjoy these dark apocalyptic type of settings as well for the future.

However I also enjoy the more cheery optimistic view expressed by the likes of Gene Roddenbery and others.  In the end I just like a good story, I am not a big fan however of fiction which is essentially political satire that resembles too closely current events or figures because this distracts me from the story and plot I am trying to enjoy.  Most authors are not as gifted as Bradbury and Orwell.

actually, I think you would really enjoy a novella writen by Philip K penis titled "We can remember it for you Wholesale" written in the '60s.  This is the story the movie Total Recall was based after.  Now I personally liked that movie but it is just a violent action fest and is nothing like the book.  The plot of the book is very cryptic, suspensful and intriguing as well as a smoother read than 1984 or Farenheit.  If you have not read it already, definitely check it out and wash away any memories of the movie you might have.

The Hot Zone by Richard Preston is litereally happening. viruses are every where and who know where the next outbreak will be. it's an awsome read and frighteningly true.

whoa whoa calm down Alastor. Yes, certain things from those books are happening, but lots of things aren't. The internet is a veritable free for all of information, countries are opening borders instead of closing them, and radical books aren't banned, they are cannonized and made required reading for high schoolers.

We are required to read one of those books at our school for freshman year. We read Farenheit 451, awesome book.

no not "right now" as in this instant. I mean look at animal farm it's just an anthology of what has happened what is happening and what will happen to society.

Well yeah Animal Farm is similar to what happened.  It was based off as closely as possible to the Bolshevik revolution, just on a farm.  Unfortunately the only character I can remember is Snowball being the representation of Leon Trotsky.  So Animal Farm has already happened, in fact it happened before the book was written.

yes but when every government, society adn orgsanization starts it may seem to work all the way through but there are always a few powerhungry changing things in thier favor.
