A person's limbs and joints were shattered, then braided through wheel-spokes or ladder rungs. They were then left to die slowly, either from internal haemorrhage, exposure, or thirst.

It looks like it might hurt like hell, huh? It also seems bloodier than making braids to someone's hair. :-D

The pear had more than one implementation, with the most popular being the oral use. The pear was also used in the rectum and in the vagina.
The pear was "expanded by force of the screw to the maximum aperture of their segments. The inside of the cavity in question is irremediably mutilated, nearly always fatally so. The pointed prongs at the end of the seqments serve better to rip into the throat" or "the intestines."
When applied vaginally, the spikes wreaked havok on the poor woman's cervix. The vaginal use was devised for women who had been found guilty of sexual union with the Devil or his familiars. Ken Russell's film The Devils shows a few implements similar to the vaginal pear in use.

Too bad. Duty dom had *so many* possibilities
The pear it's awful, man. And I like pain. But I might change my mind if after you using it on a willing *victim* you'll lend me the device :-D

the cross could be interesting, so many options to express my anger upon a person's crime, and when i'm no longer angry, i can either leave them for the birds or release them...and watch as they hobble home. ;)
odd how they have a less brutal, but similiar device for other, uses.

anyone curious about torture, make sure to include medieval. in the search words, otherwise you get some...curious sites. :-o
but in terms of the inquisition, this one sounds particularly interesting, simple is always the best to illicit confessions i suppose.

in florida we went to the most awesome dinner theatre, medieval times...they had a replica of a medieval village, one of the buildings contained a torture museum, some of the equippment they used and a brief summary of how it was used. Not suprisingly most of the items were used for heretics, treason and outspoken women.
there was this one method, i can't find a description of...but it was a device that was used usually on women there was a pyramid like implement they were forced to straddle and weights were added to the feet, gradually pulling them down. *shudders* it seems the spanish were the most cruel with their methods.

I came up with a nice form of torture.
take a belt sander and sand of the victim's toes on one foot. pour some alcohol on the wound and wait for it to scab over. while waiting for it to scab over (after about a day or so) sand off the toes on the other foot.
do the same thing as the first foot. when the scabs on the first foot are fully hardened, rip the scab off and sand off an inch or so of his foot. continue this from one leg to the other, and when you get almost to the groin, start with the fingers. when you get to the shoulders, if you're torturing a man, sand off his imprtant parts (slowly), if the victim is a woman, sand off her breasts.
that's as far as I've gotten so far, I wouldn't mind someone finishing up the rest of the body for me.
