Lets talk guitars!
what are your favorite models?
Who is the best synthesis style guitarist?
Can anyone be better at technical playing than Santana?
What is your favorite custom shop?
These are just examples. Feel free to talk about anything guitar or guitarist related.
To start i have to say my favorite guitarists are Hendrix and Santana. Why? You may ask. Well it is simple my dear Watsons. If you have ever seen Hendrix live you know very well that he lived for his guitar, his stage presence and skill scared the life out of the top guitarists at the time and still provoke standards today. And for Santana. Do you even have to ask. He has to be the cleanest guitarist ever to become famous. With his guitar in one hand and his chorus pedal in the other no one can define their sound better.

I totally read the title as "Talking Guitars" as in "guitars that talk." I need sleep :doh: :)zzz
I tried learning acoustic guitar a while back, but I have some really small hands and it was difficult for me so I kind of gave up. I couldn't get any lessons, either, and I'm a visual learner.
If I wanted to pick that back up and self-teach myself how, would videos help me out, or is it best to have someone right there with me teaching me?

um videos could help but you can do it yourself easy just go on google or any other search engine and look for simple scales for guitar and practice them over and over
then progressively work your way up into doing more difficult scales
and in no time you will dominate
the only thing is that you will need to learn how to read tableture and music sheets

I knew how to read them at one point, so I should be able to pick it up again if I start to try.
The hardest thing would be getting rid of my long, pretty fingernails...
What kind of guitar is the most comfortable to play?

in terms of being comfortable it varies from artist to artist but i would have to say get an acoustic to start and do classical training because it always makes guitarists better to have a technical backround
plus acoustic guitars have many variations and are accepted in every genre that includes the use of a stringed instrument

I have wanted to learn to play guitar for a while. I haven't had much luck in finding a place for lessons, so I will probably have to find a time to teach myself how to do it. A couple of friends have been debating over starting a band and, if we do, I have already been picked to play the electric guitar, so I have quite a bit of persuasion to do so.

dude if you wanna start playing you can achieve success in a week or less; all you gotta do is learn how to read tableture. Then go on Google, and search for guitar scales/modes.Get about 10 scales and 2 modes and practice until you can play the scales fluently and mirrored, and you can play modes fluently and mirrored all at a decent speed
then every week afterward learn 5 new scales and at least 1 new mode and even if eventually you forget a few the point is that your technical skill will increase ten-fold
The next step is learning your time signatures and chord progressions
then after all that you should master the following:
- basic techniques (tapping, hammer-on/pull-off, string bending ect.)
- arpeggios
- reading sheet music
- note sequence/progression (theory)
- understanding root notes/sharp,flat notes
- covering intros
- learning/developing solos
- learn advanced techniques
i suggest you work hard and nonstop at this and you will be god in no time just remember to learn all the theory behind everything because if you understand theory writing music becomes much easier

^Eh, not a big fan. He seems to just do the whole fast bluesy shred thing for all his solos, and I don't think his songwriting is anything too special. He can certainly play, though. As far as technical playing goes, Muhammed Suicmez of Necrophagist has amazed me more than anyone, he's insanely precise and clean in his playing.
Also, if you press your throat up against the strings of the guitar, speak, and try really hard not to think about a string breaking, you can sort of get a guitar to talk.

Well, out of boredom, and the kindness of my black little heart, Ive decided to give an intro into reading guitare tabs, for any interested.
there are 6 strings on your guitar, there are 6 lines on a tab,
the bottom line on the tab, represents the top string on the guitar.
get it? the top line on the tab, is the bottom string on the guitar.
and I know you can understand how to count to get the rest.
there will be a number on the tab line, that reprezents the fret.
example 3 on the bottom line= 3rd fret top string.
there will also be some letters and simbles
h= hamer
p= pull off
/= slide down
\= slide up
but everyone writes them different
especially dumbasses

yeh i do actually....i've got this tab and its like 7/7/7/7/7 with 0/0/0/0/0 under the seven 5/5/5/5/5 under that then two 0/0/0/0/0 under that but i've listened to the song and it doesnt have any slides!!! does it like mean to pick up or something???

depends on where you got it, most good tabs have a key, explaining whats what, some people write slide like that, others right mute like that, try muting and see if you get a beter result, then again some dumbass could have wrote it....Ive came across some bad tabs on the web man....I think there are a bunch of retarded mutes trying to write music out of spite or something.
whats the song, I may be able to help a little better. alot of times I have to play the way its wrote, then listen to the song to fill in some of the mistakes,
if it came from the web their is about a 50 50 chance that its right,
well just for the hell of it here is an ok site for tabs, but alot of them are wrong too,

Yeah i go it from http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/) I looked at the key and got one of my friends to look... he's been playing for like 5 years and he still couldnt understand it... i've only been playing for a year and i but, i can play like enter sandman and a bit of fade to black by metallica and everlong by foo fighters, can you suggest any good easy rock songs that are i bit like metal
The song is rebirthing by skillet....im not usually into christian rock but this is ok i guess...my band wants me to learn it so that thats y i have to

I looked at what I'm assuming is the tab you're talking about, and listened to the song. Obviously it's not a slide, it's impossible to slide into the same note and they're using "s"s for slides anyway. The song seems to just be strummed normally, I don't know what the /s are there for but I'd assume it's supposed to mean alternate picking or strumming, as opposed to continuous down-picking.

I would suggest nothing else matters, by Mettalica, I love the song, but even if you dont, its a good song to learn, its not all that hard, and it will open up doors, its a song you can learn a few handy things with, without it driving you nuts,
another one I would recomend, depending on your skill level is crazy train, by Ozzy, after you learn to play this, and it will take a while, you will be on the right road to learning alot cooler stuff,
and another song that will teach you alot, may not be ready for this one yet, depending on what cords,ect. you are comfy with is Stair way to heven, everyone who plays has to learn this one, its mandatory or something, *<:)
these are a few that will definatly chalenge you, but they are definatly in reach for someone whos been playing for a year, but the first step is finding a good tab.
Ill sift through some of my tabs, and pick out a few things that are a little easier, may take a day or two but Ill find some stuff for ya.
