Title: D20 modern Discussion
Post by: matthew321 on June 19, 2011, 09:35:46 PM
I have elected to post a topic for D20 modern, it is a "paper and dice game." It is modeled after Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 but is built around the modern era. You use dice, small miniatures (to represent players and non-player characters), and paper which contains your character information and status. (This is an obvious thing for many role player gamers here, but I state it to deter any misconception)

Now then, we can talk whatever we fancy here. I shall start by sharing my D20 modern ideas.

I am working on designing a campaign for the modern era. The world will be in the state it is in right now and start to decline. The player characters will have many choices and no matter what they do, they will make an enemy of some group.
Essentially in my design, the year 2012 is the end date. My player characters are working for the government and are the few to have this information confirmed. The government is making bunkers for important people and the normal populous is clueless. This game starts one year before the event happens. My characters have the opportunity to work and earn money. To stock pile weapons and supplies. To gather information on a solution, and to drink their problems away. During this one year period the world will deter and almost fall to ruin. Then after wards... It gets worse... There is an alien invasion, a war between heaven and hell, robots, zombies, biological monsters, super humans, and space skeleton ninjas.
Essentially there are many groups trying to make their grab for the world. They all think they have what it takes to fix the world and will commit any extreme act to do so. Despite their evil acts, they all think they do the right thing. All these groups will try to recruit the player characters and of course oppose them as well.
Essentially, I will combine many horror movies and the worst case scenario. But I think it has potential. It sounds like a lot now, almost too much at once, but it is tying together...

The problem is, I am so busy thinking of ways to screw over my player characters that I have not figured out how they can win... I'm too busy planning on the hard ships they will go through..

So go ahead and post campaign ideas here, your thoughts on D20 modern, what you have wanted to do, etc.

My post is more of an excuse to get this started. (My campaign needs a lot of work still so criticism is not going to be useful yet)

Hello,

I have pretty extensive knowledge of d20 Modern, seeing as how I wrote a d20 version of Robotech using it. Are you still interested in this topic? How is it going?

This topic is dead, as it seems. But if you are interested feel free to contribute to it, in whatever fashion you deem worthy of it.

I am still interested and while my players do not "win" there is still much fun to be had. It is more interesting trying different things and to see how long they can hold out.

This thread is not limited to just my campaign, the ideas of others, fun stories, and anything else related to D20 modern is welcome.

Just say something so that this is not MY topic but OUR topic. (I am starting to feel a lack of company...)
