Human-Neanderthal interbreeding
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:00:40 AM »
Happened to see a report on this in the web newspaper today. It reminded me of a topic where the possibility of humans being related to Neanderthals was briefly discussed.

http://www.livescience.com/history/neanderthal-genome-mating-100506.html

Seems like a lot of us has a great-great-......-great- grandparent that was a Neanderthal.

hmm. this reminds me also that people with blue eyes are more closely related to those who dont have , because the blue colouration is a mutation that apparently originated from one individual.... genes get everywhere.

I will admit I am proud to be a decendent of neanderthals because of how strong and incredably smart they were. They were first hominid species to show signs of medical practices (which are still used today and being rediscovered with findings of neanderthal grave sites) and they were the first to posses a form of religion.

It is also conjectured that due to the interbreeding of Cro-magnon man and Neanderthal, that Neanderthal was slowly but inevitably bred out of existence.  Well all except the occasional throwback such as myself that is.

There are other visible characteristics as well.

Larger more pointed noses in Europeans.
Generally a shorter, stockier physique in Europeans.

Tough this is not confined to white Europeans.

Homo erectus pekinensis, better known s Peking Man could very good example that interbreeding outside our species may have taken place commonly in our development towards Homo Sapiens Sapiens.

It is believed by some that Peking Man mated with the human wave through Asia, producing a source of fresh genes into the population. These genes would then have the positive effect of helping humans adapt to their new environment.
I forgot to spend some time thinking of a cool signature.

It is interesting but I just recieved a new issue of archaeology magazine that discusses the research done on this topic. It is the June/July magazine so you cannot access it online quite yet but here is the link to the website the magazine has. You can go out to the store and buy it, it also talks about the sister city of Petra, which is quite intersting considering if your an Indiana Jones fan.

Interesting: Here's a link to someone talking about it.  As I recall, some documentation about a known individual is included.  Also presents some convincing evidence and theory that sasquach / skunk apes / bigfoots are real...

It's quite long but check it out if you have the time.

Nice topic to bring up. When i was looking into a history book, i was wondering that too. What if it happens to mix up together? It's really interesting.

Where do you find that info? Do you have a link or perhaps a book? I want to know the history of neanderthals.

Interesting enough, they found the DNA evidence to support this theory. There was interbreeding, some but not en mass. I'll see if I can find it online and post the link.
