hey everyone i was wondering what your opinions were concerning the difference between psi and magic although i myself consider them two differnet energys capable of the same effects i would like to know your opinions of what makes them different or the same and so similiar?
-
Many people have different opinions on this.
The way I see it psionics is basically bending/breaking the rules using your willpower alone. As for magick it would be invoking external forces to do the work instead of asking your subconscious like you'd do for psionics. Maybe they're the same energies, maybe not. But one thing's for sure, what differentiates the two the most is the way you do it, in my opinion. Both use completely different power sources.

I think one of the major differences are the ways in which you access the energies. But, to my thinking, all energies are basically the same, there are just varying levels of subtlety. Psi energies are are of a more intimate, personal and slightly more unconscious nature; while magical energies are more general, collective and conscious in nature. It is much easier to unconsciously use Psi abilities/energies, than it is to do the same with magical energies. Magic requires more deliberation, and conscious thought. You can pick up on someone else's thoughts/emotions without thinking about it, it's much tougher to do a spell/ritual without deliberation.
-
You're right about the unconscious/conscious difference. We all, to some extent, have had psionic experiences, like piking up someone's emotions like you said. Intuition is a huge part of psionics (ESP) and some people are even born with natural, unconscious talent for it and for psionics in general.
Magick, on the other hand, I don't think you can really do it unconsciously... You have to prepare a spell and all that, so...

You prove a point for me before I am even able to speak it Kube. Psionic's is an inherant ability, stronger in some than in others, there is no real need to practice with it unless you want to get better, it is as much a part of you as would be an arm or a leg. Magic on the other hand is something anyone can eventually learn. While both can be used to achive similar effects, the process of achiving those effects are radically different.
-
I think another major difference is that there are guidelines for magick. When it comes to psionics, there's no real guide. There are texts that can teach you how to reach out to your subconscious better, but it only helps to a certain extent. Most of what you learn in psionics, you have to learn on your own. Perhaps because what's controlling your skill in psionics is the deepest part of your mind itself. In a way in makes it more difficult because you can't rely on a guide, but it also makes it easier because you don't have to apply to those guidelines...
-
Wouldn't you have to have some skill in psi to be successful in magic?
-
No you wouldn't. Magic is a combination of incantation, ingredients, symbols, ect.... Point is that magic is something anyone with a little patience can learn, PSI is something you are born with.

There are actually different theories on who can do psi and who can't. Some say you must have it at birth, kind of like breathing. Other say only some can learn and others think everyone can learn.
Having learned how to use it myself, I'd go with the two last ones. Which one of the two is the right one, I don't know. Maybe I'm lucky to have been born with it and not knowing about it until a year ago, or maybe not. I do know you can learn it on your own, though.
But you still don't have to learn psionics to do magic. It can help, but it's not necessary, just like skiing and snowboarding. If you know one, you should have an easier time learning the other since you know what it's like going down the hill. But it's still a completely different technique.

....ok i kind of think there basically the same outside of my view of seeing themas being to different energies although some people would say that some of you guy's views
speak more of sorcery or specific magics in of which a person hasa spirit or outside energy to do work for them is this the one lynchpin to peoplesviews of them being different? because i have some psychic ability which to a degree i beleive is psychic and a few are more etheric in nature but ive never been able to get them to work together cohesively.

Magic is the focus, the ritual leading to the Way. Psionics is the Will, the power which opens the Way. The two tend to be completely dependent upon each other for the practitioner of magic. However, the Psionic is born with the Magic, and hence needs no outide focus to use his Psionic abilities.

you're having fun in doing this aren't you? ur rank won't rise since you chose a clan when registering...

I've never done a bit of magic, but I'm strongly connected to nature. So why is it that beings bend to my will when I demand it? Am I just an oddity? Or is it my natural charm and charisma?
-
Personality and force of will can account for such reactions. Remember dear most people are simple sheep, willing to follow where others point. Others, such as ourselves, know better and have broken out of our molds to forge our own ways.
-
No, I'm no sheep. And I'm damn glad of it. I've never really questioned all of this 'power' or whatever you'd like to call it. Just accept it and understand what it will do. What more can you ask for?
-
Nothing at all.
-
I agree. Only a fool would ask for more.
