We talk about a more unknown subject or less talked. Does anyone know about Shangruyla? Legends and myths of the city and people? It is quite an intrigue, if I say so myself.
-
Ahh paradise, I need to stay away from there as I tend to corrupt all I touch. Don't beleave me, ask my wife Lilith. :banplea:
I don't know much about Shangrala, just that it is supposed to be the most peaceful of places, which sounds pretty boring to me, hence the lack of study.
-
People tend to get bored while picturing heaven - the green paradise, with rivers, lakes, lions nursing sheep and all. On the other hand, when asked to picture hell, people are much more enthusiastic to come up with fantasies of torture, murder, gore, and all the other cute stuff.
-
That is just one part of it. There is more to it, one popular view is it's paradise. Other depictions are not like that, some are more dark. I have your attention now Muerte.

* Raises an eye brow * "Dark you say? You have my attention, now do not disappoint me. Hmmmmm.... where did my google go?"
-
You really have to sift through all the crap to find the juicy tidbits.
-
Yeah, I figured that out already, still shifting and haven't found anything good. If I don't find something soon I'm going to find and torture you, you know that don't you  .
-
Yep I know, you'll find something.
-
Could you just send me a link please, Oni? Do me a favor, willya?
-
Theres actually a few places called shangrala, but none of them are the "real" shangrala-just tourist attractions saddly
-
A place next to nirvana?
-
I'm assuming you mean the place/mindset rather than the band..

He does, Nirvana and Shangrala, both places of contentment and peace, neither a place I would find welcoming, and Oni, I still have yet to find the darker side of Shangrala.
-
Just like political campaign.
-
Give me a little bit, and I'll find the link again. I forgot to earmark it.
-
That's right, McCain.
-
I'm all for Paradise..... just not lions nursing sheep. Gods that creeps me out... thanks a lot Dev. Now I've got the icky chills. And I'm with Muerte... I've never heard anything but the warm fuzzies about Shang...
-
I found the link, but it is dead. So I am looking else where.
-
I don't know... Shangri-La seems to good to be true. Also, it's not even a real belief but a mythical place. It's based off of a description of a place in a story called "Lost Horizon" that some British dude named James Hilton wrote in nineteen-thirty-three.

Yeah I found that one too. I was looking for the under ground army and city lost to corruption.

nirvana
nir·va·na [neer vnə, nur vnə]
noun
1. Nir·va·naspiritual enlightenment: in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, the attainment of enlightenment and freeing of the spiritual self from attachment to worldly things, ending the cycle of birth and rebirth
2. completely enjoyable experience: an ultimate experience of some pleasurable emotion such as harmony or joy
[Mid-19th century. < Sanskrit < nirvā- "be extinguished" < nis- "out" + vā- "to blow"]
Microsoft® Encarta® 2009. © 1993-2008 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Hmm.... the etymology seems to indicate the end of life. To blow out the last candle so to speak.
Or the extinguishing of the passions maybe?
I could go into detail but that would involve research.

lol I get that feeling, probably too often :P!
Apparently the second, almost first, most researched spells after love are hexes and curses so we're not alone :P
I know it sounds stupid but how can you have to stages of complete fufilment or is it the nirvana is a state of being and shangrila is an actual place?

You Guys know...... this is quite possibly the most proper definition we'll get.

When did someone say that Shang wasn't a place??
-
How is something considered a mythical place as mentioned before? Mythical places are neither proven or disprove.

It can be sonsidered Mythical because of a persons "Faith" in it's exsistance, Shangrala exist in much the same fashion as Heaven and Hell. Neither can be physically proven, but many believe that they are there none the less.

That goes for most of what's on this site. We can't prove or disprove it, but we still believe.
