The idea behind changelings was that it was a joke on humans. Faeries weren't seen as having the same emotions or morals as humans. So an inconcevable act for a human, such as giving up your own child, supposedly meant nothing to a faerie.

I believe that while faeries don't have the same emotions - like Countness stated - they can't be ALL evil. I think there are as much of good and evil in faeries as in humans, but they probably like to play tricks a lot on people too.
Excellent point!!! I hate how humans automatically classify something they don't understand to be evil. Disgusting, if you ask me.
