Hinduism itself doesn't claim to be a religion. It has nothing to do with "my" definition. And Buddhism (and Jainism) are branching schools of philosophy originating from Hinduism. If Hinduism is strictly a religion, how would you explain that school of Hinduism which follows nir-īśvara-vāda, the doctrine of godlessness? They are still Hindu. Nobody would claim otherwise. But they worship no gods and accept the existence of no gods. Chapter 1 of the 14th century Sarvadarshansamgraha is called simply "Atheism." By calling Hinduism a religious tradition, or a spiritual way of life, I'm not denigrating it, but elevating it. By attempting to pigeon hole it as a religion, you do the opposite to this wonderful and rich philosophy.

That many gods are worshipped is proof of nothing.

I didnt say Hinduism is "strictly" a religion. Are you saying that it "strictly" is not? That it cant be a religion? I thought systems of belief that were based around gods were usually called religions... perhaps Im wrong.

Dosnt really matter, that was just one example of how your "every religion must be wrong because god isnt perfect" thing dosnt work. You want another? There are plenty.

the fact that many gods are worshiped, and that many of them are not depicted as perfect proves exactly what you missed in every post Ive made.

Yes, just here:

Hinduism IS a religion wheather it fits your definition of a religion or not

Let me get this straight.
My original post in reply to someone else was concerning the Abrahamic traditions and those which claim an omniscient and omnipotent god or gods.

That bit was plain by the use of the omiscience and omnipotence to demonstrate the logcal contradiction.

You then came along and attempted to alter the parameters of the original conversation by inserting the supposition that I had said "every religion" as opposed to "every concept [involving an omnipotent and omniscient god or gods]." You then claimed that Hinduism was a religion, and attempted to imply that my reasoning must be false because (you assumed) I knew nothing of Hinduism. You move the goalposts, commit the fallacy of many arguments, and do it all with a sneering air of superiority, disdain and hostility. The fact that you actually turned out to be just making assumptions about Hinduism, for example, seems to have eluded you. As far as I can see, you are just trolling. Not interested in carrying this on thanks, I can go to 4chan if I want to read flame wars.

Looks like I hit a nerve. :-D :-D :-D

Well first, I said Hinduism is a religion, I didnt say strictly, as in thats all it can be. You never answered my question. Are you saying it can NOT be a religion?

And here, several posts later you say, OH I Ment Judeo Christian religions. Why not just say that after my first post on the subject? That would have been the end of it.

What makes you think Im making assumptions? Do you think I asked you those questions about Hinduism in hopes I would learn something? I asked because I wanted to see how far you are willing to go to defend a statement that you know isnt true.

Now, last and not least. I was not being hostile with you, in fact I was enjoying our little debate.

And on that note...

How about a Back to Topic post, yeah? One that, is not a good idea to ignore this time.

Would have been sooner, but I'm pretty distracted.

There's already a thread on the 'reasons' it would fail, though I disagree with the reasoning.

Jake and Ravin, please stay on topic and try to keep the civilized talk. Im sure you can behave more gentlemen like. If you wanna debate religion thats fine by me, but you either start a new thread or continue the debate privately. Also, remove the hostile words from your postings, you know which they are, I really dont feel like quoting all...

ravinclaw

Sorry Nina. In the process of cleaning mine up now, by the time most read this it will be done.

Back to topic though, The end of the world...what a bummer.  :-D

Hit the wrong button there a minute ago, I think that took most of the venom out of mine. If theres anything else you want edited out let me know.

I mentioned it somewhere, what I was going to do if there is a Zombie apocalypse...
But I haven't quite decided what I'll do if I know the world is coming to an end, like.. Now.

Probably make a road trip with the family, to a really beautiful location, and camp out.
Maybe we'll survive whatever happens? Maybe won't. At least the last bit we had was awesome.
