Hmm a creature as ancient and powerful as that would have to be able to become quite a hearty ghost, so yeah I like your theory. Let's start our own Nessie ghost cult, whaddya say?

Some have proposed that Nessie is actually a particularly attention-loving Kelpie.

Actually, not all Kelpies in the Scottish myths were incredibly violent. Some were simply playful tricksters.
Now, how can you deny that the intense global following, and massive amount of research put into the Loch Ness Monster could possibly be the work of a particularly good trickster?
As a "troll", I must say that I'd love to accomplish a feat of that magnitude.

Yes the Kelpie is described as a water horse, but do you have any idea how many sea serpents and other such creatures similar to Nessie have been described as having horse-like heads?
It does fit, taking into consideration that the ancient Celts probably would have been too afraid to get near enough for a good look, and any superficial similarity to a horse would have been noted, and this feature would have been exaggerated in the tales over time, much the same way the giraffe was once said to be the offspring of a leopard and a camel.

If it's a creature, it's probably a mutated mollusk, which is why there are no skeletal evdince.

  I know, I felt that since I was here so often, and I was asked for advice, well, might as well take the plunge, but

 

  I just started to re educate myself concerning Dino's, I am no palientologist after all, so please, if you will, what are the aquatic creatures of that time period identified as.  ( It seems to be a hot topic, as some sites id them as dinosaurs some do not )  If I am to mod here, I need to do some seriouse home work.  I am also going to be moving this topic to sightings, as this is a discussion for dinosaurs, and well, the topic says it all.

Krakens do exist, they're called Giant Squids.
