Title: Monstrous Radio
Post by: prezhorusin04 on June 22, 2006, 01:25:02 PM
Hello. Me Am Back to Cause Havoc here.. :-P

For those of you who don't remember me in my brief stint as a moderator here at Monstrous about 6-9 months ago, my name is Michael, and i post as MAD at www.nwowatcher.com . We do a weekly 1 hour net radio program over there called Revolution Radio which can be found at www.revradio.org .

Some things have happened since last i was at Monstrous, for one thing, i got a new computer since my last posts here, as my other one was on its last leg.. This transfer is one of the reasons that i haven't been around Monstrous as much in recent months, as well as i have kept busy trying to contribute to other sites, writing articles, doing interviews, and overall trying to make some meaningful connections, and maybe even some friendship across the Internet...

One of the last things that we discussed, Loki and myself, some moons ago, was the idea of doing a Monstrous Radio podcast of some kind.. I am here, in hopes, of helping to revive this idea.....!!

My thoughts and ideas for a Monstrous Radio show:

1) A one hour program each week, at first, covering mythology, monstrous news items, horror updates and whatever else that is related to Monstrous.com ..

2) The Monster Minute! This would be a short section of the show which would basically be an article read aloud covering a topic from upcoming Horror Movies, or Literature.. (I've got a friend, who is co-host of Revolution Radio, who i think might be interested in contributing some 'Monster Minutes' every few episodes...

3) Monstrous Music!! Playing our favorite music, in the show introductions, as well as exits. Playing whole songs from time to time, as well as occasionally playing theme music from horror movies and old television shows.... I'm sure there are a couple of us who have Horror Movie Theme songs on CD somewhere...

4) Book and Music Reviews.. Anybody could do short book and movie reviews to insert in the 1 hour show....

Basically, an exciting 1 hour program covering nothing but Monstrous related topics. I would be a host of the program, if there are no objections. Loki has stated interest in hosting, and i thought that maybe another Moderator would be interested in alternating hosting duties each week.....?

Through www.book-of-thoth.com i can help with some podcasting, but it would be much easier for me to store the shows through MP3 at first until we can transfer them all to Podcasts... Maybe we could get 2 or 3 shows under our belts first before we stored them as Podcasts.....???

ANYWAY, i just wanted to open this thread to kick around the idea of 'Monstrous Radio' or if 'Monstrous Radio' was what you would even want to call the show.....

If things work out with this, as time goes on, the option would be open to doing a 24/7 stream of Monstrous Radio if that's what you wanted to do... I just figured it would be best to work our way into that kind of situation, if that's what you guys decided to do...

I AM OFFERING TO MAKE A 1 HOUR PROTOTYPE EPISODE of Monstrous Radio for your consideration........

This thread should serve as a discussion of what topics you all think should be covered in a first episode......

Please leave your ideas here, and how you think i should proceed.....

Or if you want me to shut the f*ck up, i guess that's an option too....

Hi Mike
Well, I'm in.

Let me think a while about how best I can contribute, and any suggestions... I just wanted to post this so you'd know I supported the idea  :-)

Hey Neil and Phantom.. I think that a Monstrous radio show would be unique and interesting. It's something i would definitely enjoy helping out with and getting started. You wouldn't even have to do it every week, but could have it bi-weekly at one hour an episode... Whatever you ultimately decide. No rush, i'm just anxious to at least try out a pilot episode for you. You could see what you liked, and what you didn't like. And decide whether or not you guys would want to host as well, or contribute book/movie/music reviews, read articles on new horror movies that are set for release.. Whatever you wanted!!

We could even have a place for emails of "paranormal" stories, hauntings, sightings, and could read them on the show and make comments with our thoughts on it.. There's plenty of things that we could cover a one hour program. From mythological monsters 1000's of years ago, to modern day horror movies, science fiction, television, literature.....

Weekly or bi-weekly is whatever you guys decide. Either way i am willing to help out with hosting/writing, and doing what i can with the Podcast and storage situation for the episodes.. We just have to talk more about it and hash out some details. Even if we do one episode it isn't like we're all obligated to continue with it if you guys don't like it, or want to do a Monstrous radio show..

I think that even 2-3 of us being dedicated, with thoughts from different members here, could produce a very entertaining program.... Even if it takes a few episodes to really get the hang of things...

We'd just have to work out a system, ya know....?

I'd like to try and have some fun with it!!!!

Hm, sounds like a lot of fun.  Sure, I'd like to co host.  All I need is a schedule of sorts.

A few horror movie criticisms could be interesting.  Following some news that we have scattered around here.  Maybe an urban legend/horror story reading.  Don't know what we'd use for music.

Though if I hear the Monster Mash heads will roll.

Are you saying that we could load our CDs onto a database and let other members listen to them?

That's true, some music could lead to some potential suits.  We'd best make sure we're in no way profiting from this and contact the publishers and such.  But since Loki is the Admin...

Sounds good!! As for music, from my experience we have been playing clips of music, and even full songs in some cases, for about 2 years now.. Likewise, there are other independent shows out there playing music of all kinds, from Metallica to Pink Floyd and anything else they want to play.. As long as we aren't charging money$$ or subscriptions, then we should be fine with playing whatever music clips we want.. Or even short clips from horror movies...

Personally, i'll probably be playing a lot from horror movie soundtracks, in short clips to introduce show segments, and close them up...

Loki, i'm not sure what software to recommend.. We store our show at a Yahoo server, and have the capability to save it as MP3 links, or Real Player. What i would probably do for a "prototype" episode, is store it as an MP3 link and post it here.. Until we get a system set up, of who will be hosting what, weekly or bi-weekly, i don't see anything wrong with doing them as 1 hour MP3's. We can always transfer them to Podcasts when we get a couple shows finished..

It's up to you, but i can store them at our server if you want.. Like i said, we do our Revolution Radio show through a Yahoo space account www.revradio.org . So, maybe you could take a similar route, and start up a "Monstrous Radio" page that just serves the episode links...? www.revradio.org costs about $20 bucks a month though, but it stores hundreds of episodes and even video's and ebooks as well..

For PODCASTS, i will have to talk to Thoth from BOT.... :-P

EXAMPLE:
http://www.revradio.org/revreal56k/rev62.ram

There's the link for episode 62 of Revolution Radio posted a couple days ago. This is a real player version, but MP3's are also available. The good thing about a link like this is that it opens instantly, as with Podcasts you usually have download time.

I am testing a few scripts .... I don't really see the use to go through a third party as it is mainly a weekly cast ...so no need to have huge archives NO WAREZ (if you see what I mean ...). You may store clips in the Gallery.

Please keep the soundtrack monstrous oriented ie more underground ! Pink Floyds or Metallica are not in the basket. Check http://shop.monstrous.com/monstrous_music.htm for references.

For instance the recent victory of a finnish group at the very serious Eurovision awards is something to be reported.

Loki, that's great about the Monstrous radio page.. I'll get started on the "prototype" episode tonight!! (So if there are any suggestions for topics, please let them be known now!)  <:smurf

As for music, i've got some stuff that i can use for the first episode, i'll probably mostly be using clips of horror movies and soundtracks. The Omen, Halloween, stuff like that, with some other heavy/horror related themes thrown into the mix...

ALSO, i've talked to BOT and your Monstrous summary will be put up on the front page any time now.. As well, he is definitely interested in helping somehow with Podcasts, so if you can think of any area he might be able to help in, please let me know..

I should have a show/link ready by this weekend! Monday at the latest, as i've got to coreograph it with my friend who helps do the Revolution Radio shows..

And again, any suggestions/ideas for episode 1, please let me know here or in a PM!!! :-fly)

Like the new smilies BTW.... 0-)

Since it's radio based I suggest clips from Lady in the Water.  It's in my opinion the most moving by audio means (of recent horror previews).

Lady in the Water, is that the new M. Night Shyamalamadingdong movie..? I've seen that commercial, with the little girl whispering all creepy... Yes, PLEASE, if you can get me a good copy of this commercial, or any other bits and clips like this then definitely send them!! It would be nice to pack as much in here as possible..

BTW, i haven't really liked any Shyamalan movies since 6th sense though... :|

Ok, apologies.. Don't rip my guts out and devour me like a wild pack of zombies!!

It's going to take another week to get the first Monstrous radio show posted.. My radio partner, Cory, has some family stuff going on this week, and so do i, so it's going to be difficult to get the episode posted this week..

Sorry for the delay, but everything is still going full gear..

I've also been working on this article over the last 3 days, so it's taken A LOT of time, as it turned into a 30 page interview...

The show is in the mail and will be posted in 2-3 days.. (Yes, i have to send the shows through ground mail)..

So PLEASE, if anybody has any short clips/songs they want played on this first episode, send me a link now so it can make it into the show!!!

It runs about 45 minutes, so there is still room left to fill up an hour broadcast..

Seriously, if anybody has any clips to send that they think would be good for Monstrous radio, please do so now..... :-)

Here you go folks, sorry for the delay, but once i finish these shows i have to send them through the mail, and my friend Cory has to upload them, so that takes a few extra days..

Soooo, hope some of you guys will check it out and be honest. The sound levels get a little low in some parts, and my voice can get annoying, but here it is for better or worse.. Another host or two would help a lot, and more clips from movies, book/movie reviews, and whatever else we can fit into an hour show... (It also needs an "official" intro.)

Hope you guys like it and will give me some feedback. We can make this show BETTER but we'll need to do a little brainstorming.. I'm hoping it can become a regular thing every few weeks, if you are interested in getting involved and going ahead with it..

If not, then i guess this will be the only episode I'm involved in.. Will keep posting at Monstrous though..

I didn't want to post it on the main forum until it got some feedback and you all decided what you wanted to do with it..

I can get them on Podcasts once we have a couple episodes ready..

Best wishes

Sincere thanks again Phantom, and don't worry, i think everybody thinks their voice is a little annoying when they hear it back in a recording.. But i hope we can somewhat unanimously agree that this show has some potential, and is worth continuing every few weeks or so.. I've got a friend or two who might get involved with some recording, and i hope that some more of the 'Monstrous Gang' will co-host as well.. (We really need more clips and music to play on the show..!!!)

And, hope nobody minds, but i've promoted it at a couple of other forums as such..

We are proud to be working with the forums at www.monstrous.com on a BRAND NEW bi-weekly/monthly radio production, MONSTROUS RADIO .. I will be the co-host of this program, and Cory will be getting involved (hopefully) in future episodes as well..

This first episode will serve as a proto-type of what this show can eventually become with a little bit of dedication and support. It will cover the wide range of cryptozoology, hauntings, sightings, ESP, mythology, conspiracy, as well as the topics of pop culture horror and sci-fi entertainment in the areas of movies, radio and literature!

So stay tuned for the developing situation of MONSTROUS RADIO, coming to you on a regular basis from www.monstrous.com !

You can find me as moderator Prezhorusin04 at the Monstrous forums..

I'd also like to give a special thanks to Anyeurysm as well as
http://www.book-of-thoth.com/forums.html for support with this project, and helping to get some podcasts going for future episodes...

I'm only half way through so I'll have more comments soon.  But for music and such I suppose I do have a request of sorts.  It's rather direct and borderline cliche but the chorus is nice.  Monsters by Matchbook Romance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E77hoxJvZdU&search=Monsters%20Matchbook%20Romance).

Make sure you're really as comitted as you sound in that advertisement.  And becareful of terms like biweekly/bimonthly.  Does that mean twice a week/month or once every two weeks/months.

Aditional comments comming.

Seeker, we can definitely play that song, but do you have any other links for it? It would be better to record as an audio link if possible, instead of video.. "Werewolves of London" would be another cool one to play sometime, and all the other suggested works..

Again, it will really need regular clip/song contributions, and i personally hope that people would want to get involved like that.. To send in songs and clips from horror movies, suggestions for more shows.. If people decide not to get involved with recording anything, it would be a GREAT HELP with donations for music, clips and ideas. Or just emails with personal accounts of sightings or stories that you would like to share..

There's a lot that could be done with a bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) show like this. So many different areas that could be covered and talked about, we'd never run out of material.... And we really should try to have a little fun with it, because that's what a 'production' like this should really be about.. Entertainment, information, and trying to have a good time with it..

At the same time, i'm not expecting anything on a HUGE level, nor to make any money or get much feedback.. We've been doing our 'Revolution Radio' show at Nwowatcher for almost 2 years now.. On average we have about 25 listeners a week, sometimes we might get 100 or so in a week, but not often.. Twenty-Five listeners a week is a modest amount to have, and just enough to make it worthwhile.. Of course, IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE MORE LISTENERS, but you can't make people listen, and you almost need an advertising campaign or something to get people to pay much attention........

Anyway, i see a lot of potential in an 'underground', independent show like this, and I hope some of you guys will agree and get involved in whatever way you decide to..

Or, if the concensus is to stop doing the show, I could understand that too.. Better to stop now than when we get 5 episodes into it or something, i guess....

I'm dedicated to at least 1 show a month, as well as contributions towards the second show (if we do it twice a month).. I'll also help promote and get the links out there where i can if we all decide to keep going with this....

And again, thanks to my friend Cory who posted this show for us, and included a couple of songs (haha Monster Mash) into the mix as well.... He might be doing some co-hosting for upcoming episodes should we continue forward with a Monstrous show (I'm not really sure how big a fan of horror movies he is though, but there's always something to talk about here)...

best wishes

I'll see what I can do for some audio links of sorts.

Here's the rest of the critique.  Whether you want to follow them or not is completely up to you since these are just suggestions and stuff.

-good speaking pace
-good liability tag line in the beginning
-Early into the show there was a bit of a sound error or maybe you came too close to the mic.  It was at "...who can know it..."
-good idea of acknowledging the end of the article, it really keeps things organized
-The first discussion was a bit off.  It starts comparing gore and violence content and criticism from the Christian website.  You then counter that with Bible quotes and it somewhat ends.  The discussion needs to somehow connect to the original point.
-Naga is more commonly pronounced as "Nahg" so just with the last a silenced.
-Inbetween the Monster Mash and Monstrous Radio History segment, there's some sound error.  It picks up from a recording or goes completely quiet.
-When reading for different characters, be sure to change the voice somehow.  Make on lower/higher, slower/faster, accent, age, whatever.
-Be sure to thank the other sites first then mention Monstrous last.
-Monster Mash...yeah...there's a man with an ice pick trying to create an ironic death waiting for you.

All in all, congratulations because it was a great show.  I'd love to help out somehow.

Seeker, i'll take all your critiques into consideration, and glad you didn't hate the show.. As far as sound quality is concerned, that's a bit hard to deal with on my end. I'm recording on a digital 8 track recorder i purchased many years ago, and in the transfer from burning it to a disk, and uploading it again on the computer, it's sure to be off balance a bit in some parts. I try to adjust the levels as much as i can, but am working with some old equipment, speakers that hardly work, and it's about 90 degrees when i'm recording because the air conditioner is busted... :-P

"Anyeurysm" who has uploaded this for me, included a few more songs that would be on a different 'level' than what I have recorded on, so there is a loss of clarity and sound quality when the final product comes around.. We're just working with what technology we have available at the moment.. But i agree with you, sound quality, rise and fall, can be a real hassle sometimes.. It's hard to make everything even all the way through...

I see your points. I hoped that the first article would make sense in connection with Bible attrocities. Sometimes i need to emphasise my points more.. As for Naga, I've always pronounced them in this manner, as opposed to "Nahg", but i have heard both regularly used. (Sounds like Ninhursag) I'm glad you knew what i meant though with Naga. My pronunciations aren't always proper.... :|

As for the rest, thanks a lot for the comments, and i'll try to fix the problems.. PLEASE get involved in whatever way you want to.. If Loki and everyone else chooses to go ahead with it...

Don't worry too much about the pronunciation, they're everywhere!  I mean look at Laos, is the s pronounced or not?  Oh we crazy Asians...

And about making your points, just make sure you come back to it in your conclusion just to wrap things up.
