Born on Oct. 16, 1936 in Yablochnoye, Ukraine

At 5, his mother told him she suspected his older brother had been kidnapped and eaten by neighbors seven years earlier. This established a cannibalistic curiosity inside of him at a very young age.

Once he became a teen, Chikatilo became known as a great reader with an incredible memory.

He quickly found that he was unable to obtain an erection during his early attempts at sex. Unable to perform properly, he became obsessed with masturbation.

In 1978, he moved (with his family: wife and two children) to Shakhty.

In 1981 he became a supply clerk for Rostovnerud industrial complex. This job allowed him to travel frequently- a luxury that he would use to locate victims.

He's said to have killed 52 people. The first was a 9 years old child, the latter a 22 years old. He ate the tip  of her tongue and her nipples. After the murder, he returned to the bus station with blood smeared on his cheeks and earlobes. There he met a sergeant who,  grew suspicious and questioned him.
This episode led to Chikatilo's arrest.

On Feb. 14, 1994 he was executed with one shot to the back of his head.

Andrei appeared an everyday Joe Shmo. Thats why he eluded capture for so long. He was a communist that flew under or directly beside officials radar. Its always the apparently "normal" guy isn't it??

I was thinking quite the opposite, actually. His gaze turns me to stone. He didn't strike me as the "ordinary next door" guy at all. Ted Bundy did.

I was refering to the seemingly normal life he led up to the point of his arrest. And Bundy was definitely an all american with his charisma and good looks.

He was not leading that normal life.
Apart from his family, which he *apparently* treated with care, he changed so many jobs: before turning into a clerk, he used to be a teacher but was forced to change many jobs do to parents complaining about sex assaults.
I would not describe Chikatilo's life as normal: first his childhood, with the terrible fantasies he used to be told by his mother (not to mention the physical abuses) and the other children taunting him for his  appearance or the fact he was short-sighterd. To say he was unlucky it's a euphemistic expression.
If you consider normal a life where (just to mention a few facts, huh?):
- your sister has to set up a marriage;
- you have to change on a regular basis because you do molest children
- you are often considered as suspect of crimes (rape, murder, etc)
- you are spared prison only because (don't forget the historical period) he was member of the Communist Party
then he led an ordinary life. Personally I find it hard to agree on that.

What I find interesting is that he was ruled out as suspect from a few investigations because his blood type was tested as different from the semen left by the killer. That was one of Chikatilo's many peculiarity.
