The Bigfoot of Australia: the Yowie

In Australia, Australian Aboriginal tribes have legends of ape like monsters that are very similair to the Native American sasquatch. However, unlike the sasquatch, the Yowie is reputedly an extemely violent creature that ferociously attacks any intruders which stray into its domain. There have been numerous horror stories told by white Australians who were allegedly attacked by these beings after venturing into areas that were designated as being off limits by resident Aborginal tribes. The tribes for their part, are somewhat in awe of the antiquity of these beings that have supposedly been around since the Dreamtime.  Some Aboriginal rock paintings depict massive figures of simian like creatures standing next to the smaller representations of Aboriginals, clear examples of a size comparision between Yowies and humans.
