I'd just like to emphasize what vampyr pointed out about you making a post that was completely unnecessary. Do keep in mind that this a forum rather than a chat room where replies are almost instantaneous.

For sure we do !

Do you know that it can even be summoned by blowing into a very rare shell that has disappeared today ...

it is somewhat possible that the kraken could be what we now know as giant squid. just an idea. i can see where a giant squid might attack a  boat to get a bunch of fish.then agin it may be a relative that is much more feirce.
We are all monsters in some way.

Vince_03

as far as i know, the kraken was known to sink small boats and ships and yah, i do like the kraken a bit
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

Team Squidward

Ya, if the kraken exists it's probably a squid becuz they are more agressive then octopi and cuttlefish.

Seeing as how giant squids live in the extreme depths of the oceans and rarely venture anywhere near the surface, that's not really a plausible theory. It's far more likely that the decaying carcass of some large species of squid washed ashore in the distant past and was evantually elevated to the status of a terrible sea monster through the agency of mutiple active imaginations that were fuelled by strong wine. Just my take on the whole thing.

QuoteI perfectly understand being skeptical of things like alien contact, psychics, Gods, magick, and whathaveyou...But to deny the possibility of a strange beast of any kind is the utmost of ignorance. We live in a strange world filled with strange things, and we've only scratched the surface.
The way you talk reminds me of the men who called the platypus an expertly taxidermied hoax, and the gorilla a superstitious legend only seriously belived in by negro savages

I wasn't completely ruling out the possibility that the kraken might exist, merely pointing out that giant squids don't regularly make trips to the surface to ambush fishermen and steal their catches.  As for the theory I offered, while it is by no means  a perfect explanation, it strikes me as the most feasible one that existing scientififc evidence seems to justify. Until new discoveries are made which prove that the contrary is true, I think I'll stick to it.

QuoteWhat's so terribly unlikely that a recently-extinct species of enormous cephalopod was able to come very close to the surface and, lacking an instinctual fear of humans, got a little aggressive in its curiosity?

It's not impossible, but it is improbable, since there have been no recorded instances of  giant and colossal squids ever approaching the surface.  But you're right when you say that I can't take it for granted that such an incident has absolutely never occured.  It's certainly something to consider. Then again, who's to say that bizzare space aliens don't exist either? We'll just have to wait until they get good footage of a few before we're both proven wrong.
