Erm... I know almost everything in this forum except gothic. Can anyone explain to me what's it about? Is it a fashion or something? I am lazy to go read in wiki or go search in dictionary. Easier if you guys tell me what's it. Thx.  :-D
Fire in the hole!?

Originally the name of Germanic tribe, it was used derogatively during the renaissance to describe medieval architecture. During the romantic era, gothic architecture was revived and the term "gothic" was used to refer to novels that combined horror with romance, famous examples being Frankenstein and Dracula. In the 1980s, a type of music emerged from punk called "gothic rock", from which the gothic subculture comes from. Today, the gothic subculture is associated with dark and macabre imagery, horror films and books influenced by gothic literature, "gothic" music ranging from heavy metal to synthpop, and fashion that combines styles like punk, Victorian fashion, BDSM and deathrock.

So any of those things, really.

Ah... Thx for telling me.    :-)
Fire in the hole!?

Aw, Fatass, you spoiled the ending! :-P

Very interesting to see the roots traced back. I knew about some of them, but didn't realize they were connected to today's 'goth'.

Yes, the 'him' as in you, Mystery. Hell, he's given me the same thing, so don't be offended. I tend to be a bit lazy myself.

She is correct.  I have a tendency to more often than not simple post a site and make you read it until you find that little tidbit you are looking for.  Not only does it encourage self motivated research, when you start your research you find more information, which leads you to ask more questions, which leads into yet more research.  Pretty soon you have accumulated more knowledge than you know what to do with.  Long standing members know better than to ask questions which can easily be answered for themselves with a little effort.  I think now you have been here long enough to see how things work.

I still manage to ask dumb questions though. Wonder why that is?

  Not touching that comment.

I suspect it's because of my little lazy streak. Everyone seems to want to point me to Wiki for info, but I've never been a big fan. I'm still a bit suspicious of the info it gives out. Of course, I love that slightly malodorous smell of an old book, so I'm suspicious of anything online. lol.

True, as I have always said, I only give Wikipedia as a reference point, somewhere to start your searches.  It is never going to be the begin all end all for information.  As for the internet, well anyone can put gibberish on it and have others claim it to be exact information.

I just adore my books, but I have found that using books and the internet catches the errors in one or the other. It's nice to catch things like that. But there is just something so satisfying about pouring over books and finally finding that tidbit you were looking for. Much more so than the internet.

Speaking of books... I just bought two new one. Not at all my usual style, but something told me I needed to read them.. have them. Dunno. I suppose I'll find out when I read them.
