Title: Writing some short stories... Suggestions most welcome :)
Post by: grimweird on September 18, 2012, 09:28:29 AM
Well hello there...

I'm a wannabee writer and am actually gonna put fingers to keyboard and actually take a crack at this for real.

I was thinking of writing short stories based on the supernatural in a modern-day setting, specifically the stories will be about a super-secret international UN agency which has been monitoring, investigating, classifying and if necessary combating supernatural phenomenon all over the world. Fictional of course, but perhaps with some real world paranormal phenomenon.

So, I'd like suggestions on storylines (if possible based on true life encounters), characters, monsters (from your part of the world preferably) or anything else you would care to share.

Of course, before I start anything, I suppose I should ask you guys if you think this is something which would interest you or if you find it too preposterous or cliched?

Please post any feedback, criticisms or queries and I'll get back to you ASAP :)

Thanks a bunch.

i tried on this board, but it went sour, coming up with a supernatural story is easy, use your imagination and imagine what you'd want to experience, someone else experience or if you have something you'd like to express and no other way to express it. Prose is no different than any other art, the best is from you're own desires, fantasy and whims.

The hard part is writing in a manner that captures your audiences interest without overwhelming them with too much description, three paragraphs going into detail about the sunrise is a little much, one paragraph on what it looks like and two concerning how the character feels about it would be just about right.

Well yeah, I'm sort of doing that already, I was hoping to get a little more inspiration and "first hand accounts" as it were from the people here. I guess that's sort of unlikely now... Oh well, can't win 'em all I reckon

read some old posts in demonology, maybe some up in the mayday section. There's some good experiences that came with fantastic advice, if you search them out.

I used to, until i realized i never finish my stories. I've been trying some, however the only thing i've had luck with is a heaven, hell thing, i guess i do best with demons and angels dealing with humans who are die hard about destroying themselves and the monsters that encourage us to.  :)
