Ghosts; why do or don't you believe in them?

I think the point Lex was trying to make was fairly simple. Regardless of whether "occult" was the right word to use, I think the point was that neither the supernatural (or whatever non-scientific beliefs Kadesh holds) or science can be considered to contain all knowledge, as neither can cure cancer. Unless I've misunderstood it horribly.

What I find bewildering is why he/she thought that was a remotely relevant point to make. I'm fairly sure Kadesh wasn't claiming to be able to cure cancer.

Kadesh

No, I wasn't claiming that I can cure cancer. I don't have a specific belief. I try to keep an open mind to everything. You'll notice I said TRY. I don't always succeed.

Let me ensure you that there's ghost around. Whoever doesn't believe in ghost... Is totally ! Well... If you think there's another term for ghost or anything and it's not as fake as in movies, i can understand. For those who doesn't believe at all, i think you should not be here. Monstrous has a lot of weird and unbelievable stuff. If you tell a normal person outside that Moloch is a vampire, they will just rofl at you and say you are nuts.

Sorry it's just illogical, anything could make a creepy noise in the night and that man in the park no one else can see could have been anyone.

I don't have a problem believing in beings existing on other planes or even creating a corporeal form in order to communicate with humans. I have trouble believing that the soul (being metaphysical - meaning beyond our physical) could consist of entirely + or - energy and therefore cross into a +/- plane in the exact form that they left the body in or remain here without a corporeal body and still interact. No energy is stagnant, it is constantly being recycled.

Well, uh, too bad, I guess. As interested as I am in the paranormal and superstition, I'm very skeptical of it. And hey, Monstrous needs a skeptic or two, IMO.

I'm willing to accept the possibility of ghosts or any other phenomenon associated with the paranormal, and I try to be open minded about it - the weirdness or unbelievability of something has nothing to do with whether or not it's true - but as far as actual belief, there's no way I can take the existence of ghosts as an undeniable truth. There isn't any real proof of them. Science isn't the study of the corporeal, it's the study of reality, and an attempt to judge truth using logic instead of intuition. "Beyond science" simply means "unproven".

Polaris

Just because I may be here in order to study and make sense of the more unbelievable aspects of society and reality doesn't mean I believe wholeheartedly in every concept put forth.

When the word belief is being used, nothing is as a black and white as 'all or nothing' and it never will be until there is nothing left to prove.

I understand that you may not have been referring to skeptics who choose to not believe specifically in ghosts however my opinion still stands concerning your statement that 'anyone who doesn't believe should just get out'. If we are to have true debate then we should have every side of that debate.

Oops! Polaris, i didn't mean that. Don't go all out on me. What i mean is... Why are you still here when you don't believe something as obvious as that? You should go youtube and search for hongkong or taiwan tv shows about ghost(i will tell you the names soon) The 1 i watch is completely true. No fake work or edited vid. Anyway, you guys answer my question. So, you are right. No need to have a debate.  :-D

I whole heartedly believe.  The why.  I have seen one, once.....long ago.  You know what they say, seeing is believing.
In remembrance of Moonbaby, one of the brightest and most glorious stars to ever grace the Monstrous community.  Missed you will be, forgotten NEVER.

What evidence do you have that it was a ghost and not something else?

And MrMystery, that is the point I am trying to make, the idea of ghosts existing is not obviously true I hope I (and others) have helped prove that our own ways throughout this thread. I'm quite sure that watching some taiwanese show on youtube isn't going to make me a believer either.

Each to their own though and for all I know, you could be right and ghosts do exist but for now I;ll doubt it.

I dont believe in them nor am i affraid of them, because im a troll. :banplea:

I believe in ghosts because many religions support the idea of them in some way. Now I know most people will agree that they will die or it is at least possible for someone to die. (this is why we have religion, it is for what happens after) A lot of beliefs talk about a heaven or a hell. Well if your body and your mind aren't going there then the closest explanation would be the spirit. (Which I consider a ghost in simple terms) So that is one reason, I also hear so many stories about ghosts and they are in every culture. This has been in every culture for ages as well which also gives it some credibility. It is more pleasant thinking your become a ghost or a spirit or even reincarnated then thinking you will just turn to nothing when you die.

So these are some of my semi logical reasons. I also have personal reasons but I don't want to talk about those.
If my life is worthless then death must be my currency to spend.

Sorry, Mystery, but that's just ignorant. You can't give a TV show as your proof. Before you get your panties in a twist, I'm a huuuuuge fan of TAPS, but I'd never give it up as proof that ghosts/spirits exist. I have my own experiences that make me believe. And how do I know this particular ghost wasn't just some guy walking on that path?? Because I'm the only one that saw him.

Ghosts aren't the only thing other people can't see Kadesh, it could have been a demon or fae who knows.
