You miss the point, Soaring hawk - it isn't the "end of the world" - it is the beginning of "The World." The defeat of Antichrist ushers in the Millennium of Christ, New Jerusalem...
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." [Rev 21:1-8]

Yikes! I'd better stock up on the pain killers then.  A dip in the lake of burning sulphur will certainly call for all the relief that narcotics can offer.

P.S:Soaring Hawk is not a coward or liar, nor is he a sorceror, murderer or idolator.

Now Shaun, let's mantain some modicum of religous tolerance here, please. Even if you find Christianity to be rather lacking in your ideals, you should refrain from using harsh language to describe it as such, out of respect for the feelings of devout Christians here like Zak and Viper.

Maggot Man and Sensitive,

I appreciate your appeal for candor MM, and your apology Sensitive but don't sensor yourself on my account!  I have been harassed by professionals (I hope my wife doesn't read this   :D )  so I have pretty thick skin.  Just leave my kids out of it and I'm fine.  I hope that someday you both will understand what Christianity is all about. I'll be praying for you both in the meantime though.

Dude he invented, everyone else is copying off of him.

Sensitive, I don't know what "Evil Christian God" you speack of, but that God is not the one I worship.  The God I worship is a God that Loved me enough to reduce himself to my level, understand all my pain, and die with it.  Not a far off Judge, but a close friend that says "Hey, I have been there, I have walked this road.  I know the way, we can make it together."  That is the God I know.  He saved my life, and gave me a reason to live.  I would love very much to introduce you to him sometime.  If you wanna try it for a while, I will give you a 90 Day guarantee.  If in 90 days you are not happy with what He has to offer, I will gladly refund your misery.

Thanks for the prayers,Zak,but you don't have to worry. I am not ''anti-Christian'',nor in all likelihood, will I ever be. Mutual respect and tolerance is my God,and thus it is that I have always treated each faith with the respect its worshippers would deem due. Though I wish that Christians would not be so loath to open themselves to the possibility of understanding alternative spiritual paths,I in no way revile or despise what is in essence,a religon of compassion much like any other.

I agree in some aspects.  In my opinion a lot of Buddihst's do Chrisianity better than the average Christian.  However there quest is to seek total emptiness, which if you are empty, then you are nothing, you must be filled with something.  Hinduism has 168 Deities (I think, maybe more)  that they must keep "happy".  That is WAY too much work for me.  It is hard enough to worship one let alone 100 something.  Wicca in one book I read has 100 something coven laws they must follow that read like stereo instructions.  It is easier to be a Christian, we only have 10.  Not only that, they worship nature, but do not explain how nature got here.  I believe that the Universe is far too complex to have created itself without a "designer" or a controling force.  According to the "Big Bang" theory the universe came from nothing, if there was nothing, there would be no nature, if there is no nature, how could it create itself.  Islam doesn't really sit well with me, they have many good principals, but many scientific inaccuacies in their book.  such as at sunset the Sun goes into a pool of murky Water.  That and the whole "Kill all infidels" thing really bothers me, wich is a direct quote from the Quoran. (for those who do not know, Infidel: Anyone who is not a Muslim)  Jeudism, Christian belief without the Savior comeing yet.  I believe the Savior has come, so this does not work for me.  Finally the "New Age Movement".  This is assentially a mut of everything I just mentioned.  You are your own God (meaning that you can do whatever you want without any consequences).  They have doctine of Angels and Demons, but no doctrine of where they came from.  Most choose not to believe in a specific Diety, choose a very appethetic one.  A God that loves his children so much he would never send any of them to Hell.  With that thinking in mind that means Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stolin, Vlad the Impaler, Saddam Hussein, and every murder, thief, dictator, lawyer, inssurance salesman, and used car salesman will be in heaven with the rest of us.  Sorry I think the God that created us would also give us would also create a standard of how to live.  He created the Law of Gravity, Inertia, and for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  We have no problem with those rules, why would we have a problem with "Thou shalt not Steal".  Study of other beliefs is fun, but I feel that Christian belief has the most evidence, and makes the most sense.  I will point out that I was not raised in a "Christian Home", these are truths that I discovered on my own.  It is interesting to study all the religions and their roots though.

I'm in complete concordance with Soaring Hawk on this one. Mankind hasn't really made an impact on the planet, or come anywhere near close to destroying it. "Natural forces" however could easily wipe out humanity.

Just one example...

"A super volcano is the most destructive force on this planet. Only a few exist in the world and when they erupt they do so with a force tens of thousands of times greater than other eruptions...They threaten the survival of mankind."

"The last eruption of a super volcano was in Toba, Sumatra, 75,000 years ago. It had 10,000 times the explosive force of Mount St. Helens and changed life on Earth forever...Man was pushed to the edge of extinction, the population forced down to just a couple of thousand. Three quarters of all plants in the northern hemisphere were killed."

Precisely. Mother Earth can inflict damage and devastation so dire and horrifying that she makes our most lethal weapons look puny by comparion. Man must accept that before the raw fury of the elementals,he is but another animal, having no choice in his fate beyond coping as best as he can, with the upheavels  and clamities thrown at him by nature.

In Europe, poultry farmers are being made to keep their birds indoors for a while as they fear the risk of migrating birds from the East and Russia  passing on Avian flu.

Avian flu kills 140,000 birds in Russia - ministry
MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax) - Up to 140,000 birds have died or been slaughtered as a result of the avian flu outbreak in Russia's Siberia and Volga-Urals districts, the Emergency Situations Ministry's press service told Interfax.

More than 11,000 birds have died from avian flu and another 127,000 have been slaughtered in the Tyumen, Chelyabinsk and Omsk regions and Altai territory to stop the spread of the outbreak, the press service said.

"Laboratory examinations of selected blood samples from dead birds confirmed the presence of the AH5 bird flu virus that is not dangerous to humans. Most birds contracted avian flu from migrating wild birds from Southeast Asia," the ministry said.

Center For Disease Control (US) has this to say...
Quote
So far, spread of H5N1 virus from person to person has been rare and spread has not continued beyond one person. However, because all influenza viruses have the ability to change, scientists are concerned that the H5N1 virus could one day be able to infect humans and spread easily from one person to another. Because these viruses do not commonly infect humans, there is little or no immune protection against them in the human population. If the H5N1 virus were able to infect people and spread easily from person to person, an “influenza pandemic” (worldwide outbreak of disease) could begin. No one can predict when a pandemic might occur. However, experts from around the world are watching the H5N1 situation in Asia very closely and are preparing for the possibility that the virus may begin to spread more easily and widely from person to person.

I know what you mean! :D

I have a LOT of time on my hands. Mostly I read and pray. But Voo's "Warriors..." story thread has inspired me to write a novel of my own about the End Times. I think I'm going to start it off with Avian Flu...

BTW, there's an article from The Washington Post today that discusses Avian Flu... Here's an extract:

Quote from: The Washington Post
Since late 2003, about 100 million domesticated birds -- mostly chickens and ducks -- either have died of the virus or have been intentionally killed to keep the viruses from spreading. But what has Webster and other experts so worried are the 112 people who have been infected with the H5N1 "bird flu," more than half of whom have died. The fatality rate of 55 percent outstrips any human flu epidemic on record, including the epochal Spanish flu of 1918 and 1919 that killed at least 50 million people.

This seems to be the big problem - it constantly mutates. And some of its current mutations are masking its presence... The disease may be occurring more often in humans than previously expected but without typical influenza respiratory symptoms.

Two Vietnamese children who died in 2004 of diarrhoea and apparent encephalitis actually had H5N1 bird flu, British and Vietnamese scientists have reported. The cases raise the frightening possibility that there have been far more human infections with H5N1 than thought, because many cases have been overlooked by doctors watching for the fever and cough of typical flu.

Should we be worried about this? I think so. I would not be the least bit surprised if later this year or in 2006 or 2007 tens of millions of people died worldwide from a further mutated strain of the H5N1 bird flu. All it would take would be for that bird influenza virus and an influenza virus from humans to infect an animal or human at the same time. Then the two strains could have their DNA recombined into a strain that has the deadliness of the avian flu and the transmissibility of a human flu. The result would be a pandemic in which each of us would lose family members, neighbours and friends.

Mutations of viruses are not an uncommon trait.  It should also be noted that there is a mathmatical formula (I don't remember its name :( ) that basically states that there will always be a big increase at first and then a decline and these will be related to time.  For instance if the infection spreads quickly it will peak quickly and then fade away.  The Americas have recently been hit (about 5 years ago) by the west nile virus, carried by birds and transmitted via mosquitos.  The initial infection rate (and subsequent media hype) was startling but the cases in Ohio have dropped dramically and only 4 cases were reported this year.  Yes flu's can be deadly, especially to the old and very young, but the best defense is good hygiene.  So relax a little, the media likes the hype.

The Spanish flu virus that killed up to 100 million (equivalent to 350 million given today's population) people in 1918-19 was probably a strain that originated in birds, research has shown. US scientists have found the 1918 virus shares genetic mutations with the bird flu virus now circulating in Asia. It is thought to have originated in the United States in Feb 1918. Movements of US and other troops help spread the virus.

The researchers believe the two other major flu pandemics of the 20th century - in 1957 and 1968 - were caused by human flu viruses which acquired two or three key genes from bird flu virus strains. But they believe the 1918 strain was entirely a bird flu virus that adapted to function in humans.
