Title: Woman Who Gave Birth To A Mummy...
Post by: Devious Viper on October 31, 2005, 11:28:45 AM
(This isn't really the right forum, but I was struggling to see where else it would go...)

How you forget you're carrying a baby is anyone's guess, but that's exactly what happened to a Moroccan woman called Zahra Aboutalib. In 1955 Zahra went to the hospital to give birth, but fled when she saw a woman die during labour. Somehow the baby stayed in her body, eventually died, and Zahra accepted it as a "sleeping baby" - which in Moroccan culture is said to protect a woman's honour. Forty years later she went to the hospital with crippling abdominal pain and the "sleeping" baby was revealed. Experts say that it had become just another organ, and are baffled why carrying a dead body inside her for so many years never killed her.

Weird!!!

I saw a documentary on that. What happens is the woman develops a unique cs of pregnancy, where the uterus wall tears, & the baby is forced into the abdomen. Unfortunately, the baby dies in most cases, & the body coats it over with calcium to prevent it from killing the mother. This actually saved her life. If she had stayed in he hospital they would have tried a c section, killing her.

The child was absorbed and the body adjusted for as long as it could... then it began to reject it! However, it did indirectly protect the mother (quote:  "which in Moroccan culture is said to protect a woman's honor") Moslem religious beliefs play a major role in the common day to day way of life over there, more so than our culture.  She could have been easily stoned, disfigured or cast out  and in all respects the Law of the Koran would have been literally done (If thy hand offends thee... Cut it off and that certainly is what is going on in the Middle East now, even though we can't see it or hear it doesn't make it go away! It's truly a fanatical way of life, supposedly all speaking in the name of God/Allah!)  Most if not all the truly atrocious wars in the world were and have been in the name of God.  So, we will never fully understand or realize the why's and wherefore's of different thought or faiths until we walk the walk and talk the talk!  Thank the YHWH  that... the woman survived and is still alive!  Judge not.... until you have at least walked a thousand miles in someone else's shoes!  They truly believe.... that they are right!!!!!

It's a form of ectopic pregnancy, it's rare but does happen. The body calcifies the fetus & it becomes similar to any other stone in the body (kidney stones, gall stones, etc). Ectopic pregnancies happen all over the world but the calcification is usually a result of poor diet & poor medical care.
