Title: What If?
Post by: Vendoh on March 11, 2007, 11:19:56 PM
what if we die, and then nothing? Does that possible aspect scare anyone else? I personally hope to keep going even after I die, but what if... *shutters.*

if you don't go anywhere after you die, then you really wouldn't be around to know now would you. but it would scare the f*** out of you until your eventually death.
i thought about this before and it does scare me

It doesn't really scare me for the simple fact that I won't care then after I die.  And if I won't care when it happens to me, why should I care before it happens?  Nothing is going to change what will or won't happen.  All it means is that you have to make the most of now.  I can understand how it would be scary though, especially if you don't feel like you're making the most of now.  However, we do exist now in this moment of time.  And if you think about it, this moment in time extends infinately in a horizontal direction instead of the vertical direction that we normally think of time in.

I think I'm gonna have to do a "what he said".  There's nothing to be done about it, really, so there's no reason to fear it.  I'll deal with it when it happens, whatever happens.

It all works out at the end, trust me on this one my friend. It may seem scary now, but when you die and if there is nothing then who will care? You won't because you won't be able to think or feel anything. People may be sad, but you will no longer have to put up with anything that the living must endure.

I use to fear this to until I read a segment of Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett: "He didn't know what would happen when he died, but he figured it would all work out."

So Vendoh, do what I do. Live for the now and worry about the future later.

It just buggs the crap out of me is all. I mean I have seen all of this unexplainable stuff, but in the back of my mind i wonder if its all for nothing... that sort of thing.

It will be such annoying to know that after working hard and good on earth .. and all of that lost for nothing. This would make me cheerful as there is no punishment and no nothing Il just enjoy my life then  :-D

I have to ask: "So what?" What if there isn't anything after death but oblivion? Why are you worrying about death, instead of living your LIFE? Death is for the dead to contemplate, not the living, take it from me, I contemplate it all of the time. Do I seem like a happy person to you?  *<:)

I must ask something myself.  What is the big deal about the possibility of there being no rewards or punishments when you die?  Does not the nobler heart do good for its own sake?  Does not evil become its own punisment?

Everything you do is not for nothing, it is all about what you do now.  Reap your rewards in this moment, and do not wait for death to give them to you.  In the end, death is just about closure and making a complete end to this moment in time.

I think you guys misunderstand me. I love life, and I try to live it to the fullest. It just would really bug me if there was nothing. I don't know maybe its just an irrational fear like the fear of hieghts. I just would prefer to think that vallhalla was in wait for me.  :-D

Well, nothing stops you from thinking so, so you might as well.  After all, no one that I know has come back from the dead to tell me otherwise.  Think and believe what you want to now about after death to put your mind at ease.  There's no proof that there is or isn't anything afterwards.  You'll find out the truth when you die.

Though if you find some way to come back to the forum after you die, please do so and tell us about  it.   :-D

Of course we wonder, but doesn't mean we all worry about what happens.

That was lovely....

And, I agree, whatever is to come, why worry about it? If there is nothing, than we'll find out, won't we? We should take into deep consideration the things that are transpiring on this material realm, which does directly and indirectly affect the lives of all of us... And this is related to our spiritual realms, as well as our own inner quest......

Personally, I believe there is something, something wonderful and perfect, just and compassionate.. Fair and balanced... Something beyond our human comprehensions, the most complex yet simple thing that ever was or could be. Something glorious that was with us all along....

Looking at the natural world, the cosmos, there is a 'spiritual' nature behind it.. Which deals not only in energy, but in realms of consciousness and super-consciousness. Cause and effect..

While we cannot adequately define it in biological terms and definitions, there is purpose in life as well as the 'afterlife'...

Good should be done for good's sake alone, not for the thought of eternal reward or damnation.... It's not about organized religion, but it is about Faith in something beautiful beyond the horizon...... Within us at all times..... Eternal...
