Title: Why do zombies Feed?
Post by: Muerte on April 09, 2009, 05:29:23 PM
I'm gonna open a can of worms in here and ask the majority, what causes a zombie to feed?

I think somehow zombies know another zombie and humans who have not been affected, either by smell or just some knowledge...i don't honestly know so i'm shooting in the dark
What seems logical is zombie are like baby vampires(fictional) when they are created they have a need to feed and nothing else. although a zombie doesn't really need to
OR> Its like rabies, you need to sink your teeth into something, though rabies victims are afraid of water because of the painful spasms when swallowing. Maybe zombies just need to bite and they swallow because it was compulsive when they were alive?

They don't feed, not really. Its more like they spread their zombie condition. Primal reactions in species. Mammals have teeth, they bite. Zombies are only usually effective in numbers, its not the feeding that is important. It's the bite itself. Once bitten, it doesn't matter after that. If the victim doesn't get away on time the bite just leads to eating, as well they keep biting until beyond a doubt death has happened. Or the victim stops struggling.

I doubt it's ever about the food. Just the spread of the contagion. Feeding is just natural continuation of the first bite.

Real zombies dont eat. They are slaves. Look up the case of Felicia Felix-Mentor. Its very good and very interesting. If we are talking about movie zombies I like the theory from "Children of The Living Dead". The brains of a living human works as a form of pain killer, but only while eating, right after they have fed the pain returns. One zombie explains it as "I can feel myself rotting" and "It takes away the pain, the pain of being dead". Its my fav zombie movie ever.

28 weeks/days

Hmmm.  I think I'm going to start a new thread, look for it in movies.

I'm completely in agreement with this. It's like how having a cold makes you sneeze.

okay so by zombie are we referring to the people who were kept in a drugged and hyper suggestive state by voodoo practitioners who then on
used them as assistants, familiars, and bascially free labor. or are we talking about the supposedly undead corpses that walk the earth and eat human flesh
in the first case i would say that the zombie was told by the voodoo priest to attack someone or guard a place, and they would of course do all that is within there power
to accomplish such things and often times zombies were not fed by there creator so cannibalism is possible. or in the second case the corpse would try and re establish
the spiritual energy and soul that they lossed upon there death by consuming other living beings.

This is a very interesting theory.

well thank you, but i beleive that all undead creatures and spirits are parasitic in nature your only choice of how that affects you is who or what they feed upon.

Maybe the unaffected blood mixes with the saliva and gives them a sort of euphoric high. Maybe zombies resort to their animalistic nature as mammals and bite as a rabies infested dog does.

With no soul to guide the body or just the severity of the brain damage, depending on how you want to view it, spiritual or scientific, I guess the body would go on auto pilot. Only going with the baser instincts but then zombies would be trying to hump everything and then probably eat it. lol. Humping zombies.
