that statement is inconsistant.  you say that since death is not a being it can not be good or evil but you say there are such things as good or evil actions.  unles i am mistaking, death is an action.  you die. it dies. i die. she dies.  then again you could be seein death as a stated of being but you already said that its an event and therefore an action - something thats happening

Interesting point.  Perhaps my syntax is bad but my point is death is neith good nor evil.  Would you agree with this or not?

Death is a natural occuring event.  but it is also a state of being depending on the way the word is used you can be dead(state of being) or you can die(action) same word different forms

i'd say that i would have to agree with Zak on this topic and say that death cannot be catagorized as good or as evil seeing as it is not a concience entity but an event and as Janus pointed out also a state of being

But for these purposes lets say that all things with a beginning have an eventual end and if life or birth is the beginning death is the end so death is the result of life just as life is the result of death because in order for one being to live annother must die So even if it was an entity here it would be neutral because as much as it takes it also gives

Also alot of death has been over emphisized by humans so this natural occurence has been tipped to evil in most minds because they fail to see the positives and only their selfish negitives

Well, look at it this way. Death is a "Force of Nature". Which Force you ask? Well, certainly not Gravity, the Strong or Weak nuclear forces, or electromagnetism. No, death is the physical expression of Entropy. I invite you all to look up this concept online. The best article I've found yet is on Wikipedia, much as I hate to redirect anyone there. Just key in 'entropy' into the search bar, and give yourself an hour or two, it's a very involved article.

to zak:  its not syntax that is a problem but it is no matter I do agree with you in saying that death is neither good nor evil

to moloch:  death is not the force of entropy    entropy is energy lost from a system   death is recycling that energy into more life

nope the question is if death is evil . i personally do not think death is evil at all. death persona was portrayed as a scary skeleton wearing all black and ending peoples life's with its huge scythe. but it only does its job, i seriously doubt death persona. runs around killing people just for fun. i think god gives death a laid out plan of when who dies when and where, death shows up and escorts that spirit from its body and to whatever its destination may be.
We are all monsters in some way.

This is going to sound way crazy, but Death and it's/his roll is portrayed well in a movie called 'Monkey Bone.'  Yeah, I know I'm screwy.  *<:)

No takers on that theory?? I didn't really think so anyway. But why is everyone so afraid of Death? Because they're scared of the act of dying. And since he represents that, they're afraid of him. But Death himself isn't scary. He's an angel of mercy. He releives suffering. He teaches. He strengthens those that are left by whom he takes.

((Late post))

On my opinion it depends on the psychological history of the person, since we mainly learn to see Mr. Death as evil, if a person was of peaceful and accepting nature s/he would maturely accept it as mandatory in the life cycle. If a person is suicidal they would actually receive with opened arms. Killing is one thing that is evil but a natural death is inevitable. And regarding to the wanna-be Goths who see the Death as an evil Grim Reaper it all depends of culture and point of view. In Mexico, for instance, Santa Muerte is a religious (often female) figure who receives petitions for love, luck, and protection - and Saint Death shrines are very popular for those who pray for the recovery of sick relatives or stolen items. Interesting, no?

In Ancient Egyptian Mythology Anubis was the god of the underworld. He was prayed to and asked to take care of  the dead. I think it's mainly an English speaking theory that death is evil. It seems that other cultures have their heads on straight though.

Exactly, and (nothing against our country) but the superstitions change from good to bad here as well. Take for example western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of bad omens. One of the prevalent black cat superstition alive in our the western culture today is if a black cat crosses your path, it is considered bad luck. Interestingly, in most other cultures, the black cat is a prized possession & owning one is said to bring the owner good luck. Some of the stuff (besides death/Grim Reaper) some people would consider bad omens and are practically the symbol of good fortune in other countries.

I am going to say death is in love. Death is in love with all of us and we will all see death at least once in our lives.

Death is in love! And sometimes Love can be in Death...
Yet Death isn't going to knock on our doors to give us flowers, but Death can still be romantic somehow... <^>
