The original TCSM
This movie set the stage for classic modern horror of the late 70's and early 80's.
Tobe Hooper's movie renders a disturbing picture of a family of cannibals who hunt their victims using any means necessary .
Caught up in this whole mess is a group of young people unaware of what awaits them down an old back road of Texas.
Hunger is our most basic urge as human beings, and this family takes it to the extreme.
Leatherface stands out for the fact that he was born without a face, thus using human skin to gain an identity and this sets him apart from other slashers such as michael myers and jason vorhees for they hid behind masks.
Many people refuse to watch this movie because of what they heard and because of the title. Strangely, some even walked out of the theaters on the previews for this movie
There's really a lot less gore in this movie than most people think but the last 10 minutes of this film are some of the most terrify shots ever put on film.
Because of good ole leatherface to this day many people's nightmares will be echoing the buzz of a chainsaw.

I watched this recently...it still creeps me out...and it's still WAY better than the remake.

I agree, the original is a classic and much better than the remake, though the remake wasn't horrible.. Jessica Beil is a decent actress.. Parts II and III were pretty good too, with Dennis Hopper going crazy and Ken Foree from 'Dawn of the Dead'..
But, did you ever see "Texas Chainsaw Massacre the Next Generation"?.. Talk about a horrible movie.. :)zzz No wonder Matthew Mcconaughey sued to try and keep this movie out of the video stores.. :roll:

This was suppose to be a semi-remake/sequel...it WAS terrible...
The most recent TCM was good...just not AS good as the original. The upcoming prequel TCM: The Beginning doesn't look to bad either.

The first time i seen this film was around halloween when i bought it from the co-op, i fell asleep that night with the buzz of a chainsaw in my ear. Haven't watched it since, but i guess i should 'cause after all it was 'ONLY' based on 'True' events.

This movie to me was one of the most overrated movies Ive ever seen. For years people talked about how intense it was and stuff, and yes it has an interesting story, but the movie just didn't live up to the hype. It was the "Blair witch Project" of its day and most of its hype was based on being about true events. With out that part the movie wouldn't have done nearly as well. And the use of the chainsaw, highly original for it's day, but seems more inspired by Lovecraft rather then actual people. The farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and the run down towns and forgotten places people find themselves on accident was much his style of horror.
This movie wasn't that good, it just got lucky is all. When Hooper had more money to work with he showed his true talent later on.

I think I was 11 when I first saw this movie. It was the very first horror movie I had ever seen and remains one of my favorites. It definitely started my love of scary movies. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Leatherface's character based on the serial killer Ed Gein? He's from my home state so it was always a much talked about movie here. We breed all kinds of winners in those remote back woods farmhouses like Ed Gein and Jeffery Dahmer.

The first horror i ever seen was The Ring when i was 10 or 11, ever since then i've been addicted to horror movies.
My all time favourite one is An American Werewolf In London.

I love the dance letherface did at the end of the movie it was blissful.
