Title: Messed up sword!!
Post by: onishadowolf on July 14, 2009, 10:37:35 PM
Here's the deal, I did some energy work with a sword and it acquired qualties of me. Like for instance, my vampiric qualties and may be some senteince. Now the blasted thing is increasing it's range.  What do ya'll think?

You should call up Father Lankester Merrin and let him go to work.  The power of Christ compels you.

Ha, good one. I would try that but, it would only piss it off, kinda like me.

I agree with Muerte. In all forms of media sentient swords are usually bad news. However if this is a new entity and not a demon of some sort that has bonded to your blade, i would suggest that you try to communicate with your blade. A connection would produce a resonating effect that would amplify your own power.
This is all conjecture however.

You know, of all the suggestions made, no one has asked a rather obvious question; a question which would determine exactly how you proceed from here, if you proceed at all.

What is your sword comprised of; what metals, what gems, what alloys, etc?

Crystal and metallurgical magics can be very complicated, and on top of these, you're working with energy magic. This could get ugly, or it could be a beautiful thing, but above all else, please provide as much information as possible.

Also, and this is for everyone, if you don't know exactly what you're talking about, if you haven't done the research to be certain of your response, then you shouldn't be responding. Telling someone an answer based off of something you saw in a manga cartoon, a movie, or heard in a song or read in a fantasy novel is not a great way to help them. If you can't help, at least do not hinder.

1020 carbon steel, one crystal in the handle, and
Imtation ivory handle.

What kind of crystal? And yes, it could be important.

I've done some research, and basically, that form of steel is an alloy. As such, I need to know exactly what metals went into its formation as well.

Also, what was used to create the imitation ivory handle?

You know, I think it's glass or the whole handle might be plastic. The metals in the alloy, I'm going to have to look that up. Actually, I think the carbon is increased in the steel or something like that.

Still, what's the crystal?
Title: Re: Messed up sword!!
Post by: onishadowolf on July 16, 2009, 05:08:02 PM
I tapped it with my knife, it's plastic.

Post by: Moloch on July 16, 2009, 06:28:08 PM
What's plastic, the crystal, the handle, or both?
Title: Re: Messed up sword!!
Post by: onishadowolf on July 16, 2009, 06:56:47 PM
Both of them.

Ok then, just need the list of metals used in the sword's construction.

Also, if it turns out that things other than metals, in this case most notably carbon, were used, then those need to be included to, and in what ratio.

It's made in China, no telling what extra stuff they threw in there. I'll find out the process though.

That is off the MSDS sheet for 440 stainless steel. I looked near the handle and on the blade it read 440 stainless steel.

What the sword is doing has no effect on me or my two friends, just my other roommates. I do that energy thing to every sword that stay near me for long periods. This one has been with me the longest, and I have tried different things with it.
Wait may be that is my special talent, corrupting stuff with my energy.:-D

Yeah, sounds like you're a corrupter of objects. A good way to test this theory is to do an intense cleansing of the sword, and see if that stops what it's doing. If not, then you may have to speak to me in PM, so that I can get you in touch with another non-member who is much more knowledgeable of such things than I am.

Ok, I will try that.
Uhhh....how do you cleanse?

hey i disagree the sentient sword in baldurs gate 2 was fantastic. granted it was a video game, but i would love a sword like that

A sword that augments your powers and is even sentient... I'd gladly do that with my katana! :-D I suck at energy manip., though... I've always had more luck with psychokinesis and empathy...

Oh... *raises hand* oni, I have a question!

What do you mean by "increased it's range"? And... if you don't mind... what kind of energy work was it? What did you do to make that happen? :3

If memory serves... the sword "Nightmare" in Soul Caliber/Soul Edge was also sentient, etc. That was one wicked sword! Though I did prefer Voldo... the things that character can do in that game are just creepy.

Also, I've been doing, or more precisely, ATTEMPTING to do some energy work with my wedding band. It is a Tungsten steel alloy, and as such, according to texts, is next to impossible to imbue with energy. I've been attempting to prove the texts wrong, and what I have found is that they are actually CORRECT! It IS next to impossible, and what little energy is imbued, is quickly shed back into the ether until it reaches its stable state. The amount of energy expended in the imbuing process relative to the amount imbued makes it utterly impractical. However, it does FOCUS energy quite well, and also helps to stabilize energy flow and frequency. In fact, it is so good for these things that I'm considering buying a second rin for my other hand, and a few other components for a necklace.

Oni, I suggest that you also incorporate some Tungsten or Tungsten steel alloy into your weapon somehow, or wear it as a ring on your sword hand to help you to control your sword.

uhhhh moloch please remind him to cleanse it with the power of a spirit because if he tried to expell foreighn energies with his own that would prove nothing and make it worse it sounds predominantly like the sword is catching fly off bits of your spellwork and thoughts like a egregore you didnt intentionally create you can try to sync yourself with the sword making a energy link between it and you allowing for you to reabsorb some of your altered energy which aand the sword to gather some newer purer energy from you.

If you are curious what you did to your sword is called "cursing". It is the opposite of blessing an object. To test my theory and prove it, obtain a blessed object and have it be within a centimeter of your cursed object. It is not uncommon for there to be sparks. Make sure the blessed object is of equal strength or close. It is also fun to make them touch but be careful not to hurt yourself (or others) and try not to drain either one dry.

Soul Calibur and soul edge are awesome, a crystalline inhuman ice blade v'.s a fiery semi-organic eyeball of sharp pointy steel is quite a great way of creating contrast to the two similar yet opposing energies they posses.
However what is more interesting is the  inversion of the ideal that good came before evil, because the calibur was created from pieces of edge to destroy it. And the simple fact remains that in D&D it would be classified as lawful good  and soul edge is chaotic evil, hence introducing a third element, the character's alignment......... I'm not sure how relevant this part is to oni's problem so meh.

and you're saying that your tungsten band is like a pranic superconductor or something?

Alright figured it out, I accidently binded a spirit to it. So I did two no-no's, corrupted something and binded something. So, I'm going to need to bring it to a temple.

maybe because i've had similar problems and i can understand both the frustration and the humor in it.

This is a great thread. I am fascinated by your sword and its abilities. Not that I will do this, but can sentience be given to any type of metal or are some more receptive to being "brought to life" ?

I know you said you bound a spirit to it, is it aware that it has been caught? do you know what kind of spirit it is. I ask this because a friend of mine had a gentlemen come into her store with an interesting object wanting it cleansed, he had trapped something inside it and wanted it out and couldn't do it himself, only to find out later he was a bit of a nasty and was only testing his work to see if he had actually succeeded in capturing something so he could go out and capture something worse later to benefit and serve him....sorry :focus:

So is it an actual spirit?...if you don't mind my asking?

um idano what kind of metals are conducive to this kind of thing... but those found in cars may or may not work REALLY well...

Yes an actual spirit. And yes she is aware of it, and won't leave out my dreams.....some of them are nice though. lol
