Levinthross is right. Since the Djinn possess free will much like us, it is impossible for them to be innately evil. Alas, their nature is such that wrecking havoc on mortals appeals to them more than a virtous existence. However, there have been a few Djinn that after listening to Mohamad's sermon, chose to embrace Islam and in doing so, won divine salvation

but can anyone tell me if they are daemons or not because in some places there regarded as fey in others all spirits are regarded as djinn

They are seperate from such classifications.
See, Faeries are an entirely European concept, while the idea of malicious spirits, or demons, is present in all mythologies. Some Faeries of lore are considered quite evil and violent, while some of the "good" faeries of ancient belief were demonized when Christianity spread across Europe.
To draw a clear line and group spirits of lore into largely modern classifications would be fruitless, because there really is no distinction in some cases.
It's really like comparing apples and oranges.

I know this is way done with. but I have add that an Afrit is not a demon, it is a spirit of vengeance springing from the spilled blood of victim of a volient murder. They are some what of fire elemental, but really they're just discribed as a fiery spirit of vengeance.

Wikipedia, or yahoo one search. That's how I found more info, but originally I read it in the book "Thousand nights". So, there.
