Robin Hoods Grave --a modern mystery!

.........................................................................

Even more terrifying than the Blair Witch Project and a thousand times more intriguing than any Brother Caedfel mystery, SECRETS OF THE GRAVE and it's sequel SPIRIT OF THE GREENWOOD reveal, for the first time, the true story of the life and death of Robin Hood. Enter the dark, mysterious woods of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, and visit, with writer historian Barbara Green, the forest of Barnsdale where Robin roamed and the ruined priory gatehouse of Kirklees Nunnery where he was treacherously slain by the hand of an evil nun. Written testimonies from those who have experienced the ghostly presence of Robin and his comrades, whose spirits haunt this ancient forest, form the basis of both books, while the life of Robin, as told in SPIRIT OF THE GREENWOOD, accords fully with the Lytell Geste,(Robin's first biography) printed in the fifteenth century. This, one might think, could be the basis for a best selling book, but such seems to not to be the case, for ,according to the "experts" the public do not want to knw the truth and prefer to be fed the myth of Sherwood Forest and the dastardy deeds of the Sheriff of Nottingham, not to mention Richard the Lionheart, who does not even belong in the story at all!

The mystery of Robin's gruesome death at Kirklees, it would seem, is not the only inexplicable phenomenon surrounding the legend ! Why ARE people prevented from learning the true facts about the oulaw's life, due to the propogation of a fantasy by the media, and why is his famous grave at Kirklees, kept in a state of secrecy and neglect - and who is responsible for this bizarre situation? Dare you ask ? Dare you investigate and............. dare YOU print the truth ? Or is Robin Hood's legend to remain distorted out of all recognition, and the real man lost to future generations forever ?

"No one could see anything in the dense, suffocating blackness, but following Mark's directions we stumbled on forward through the barrier of writhing, intertwining bushes and trees; then suddenly, we found ourselves in a clearing, where, looming out of the gloom, rearing up before us in the light of our flickering torches, a massive, broken edifice was revealed . A huge ship of stone, wrecked in the everglades of Kirklees, listing crazily into the leaping shadows. We stood transfixed with fear and awe as we gazed upon the fallen pillars and twisted railings which were all that remained of Yorkshire's buried treasure -Robin Hood's Grave."

"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:

Look on my works, ye Mighty and despair!"

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away."

SHELLEY

Robin Hood's death is recorded in the ballad ROBIN HOOD, HIS DEATH AND BURIAL and briefly in the GESTE. According to the literature Robin is taken ill and decides to go to Kirklees Priory to be nursed by the prioress, who was "nye of his kin" and reputedly skilled in healing. On the way to the nunnery Robin is cursed by a witch - for reasons unknown, as the ballad is unfortunately incomplete. When Robin arrives at the nunnery, Little John, who has accompanied him, is sent away and the prioress proceeds to bleed Robin by opening a vein in his arm - standard medieval medicine, though unlikely to do anyone much good !

"Shee laid the blood irons to Robin Hood's vaine

Alacke the more pitye!

And perct the vaine, and let out the bloode,

That full red was to see. At first it bled, the thicke, thicke blood,

And afterwards the thinne,

And well then wist good Robin Hoode,

Treason there was within."

DEATH, V 16-17

According to the legend, Robin summons Little John with three blasts of his trusty hunting horn and the giant rushes to his comrade' s assistance, but alas,he is too late and Robin is already dying. With his last ounce of strength Robin fires his last arrow from the priory gatehouse window, requesting that where it falls he should be buried. Little John is beside himself with rage and grief and threatens to raze the nunnery and all its inhabitants to the ground.

"A boon,a boon," cried Little John,

"Master ,I beg of thee."

"What is that boon,"quoth Robin ,

"Little John,thou begs of me?"

"It is to burn fair Kirkley Hall,

"And all their nunnery."

"I ne'er hurt fair maid in all my life

"Nor at my end shall it be;

"But give me my bent bow in my hand,

"And my broad arrows I'll let flee.

"And where this arrow is taken up,

"There shall my grave digged be,

"Lay me a green sod under my head,

"And another at my feet.

"And lay my bent bow by my side

"Which was my music sweet,

"And make my grave of gravel and green,

"Which is most right and meet.

"Let me have length and breadth enough

"With a green sod under my head:

"That they may say when I am dead

"HERE LIES BOLD ROBIN HOOD."

The grave, six hundred yards from the gatehouse, was enclosed in iron railings in the nineteenth century. Today it is neglected and overgrown and little known to the general public. It bears the inscription:

Here underneath dis laitl stean

Laz robert earl of Huntintun

Ne'er arcir ver as hie sa geud

THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD

At first it bled the thicke thicke blood

And afterwards the thinne

And well then wist good Robin Hood

3)

The death of Robin Hood is a well known legend. He was treacherously bled to death by the wicked prioress of Kirklees nunnery, a small Cistercian house near Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The outlaw's gory and unheroic end is shrouded in mystery. Who was the evil nun and why did she commit so foul a murder? What was the role of Red Roger of Doncaster, who was present at the scene of crime? Was he a priest and also the prioress's lover? Who WAS the prioress? Was she Dame Elizabeth de Stainton, whose grave can still be seen at Kirklees, or was it Sister Mary Startin, who died of the Black Death in 1350?

All that is left of this medieval whodunit is a ruined grave, hidden in deep woodland, and the derelict priory gatehouse of Kirklees where Robin was so gruesomely done to death. Was the famous outlaw a vitim of thwarted passion, pagan sacrifice, bad nursing, accident, natural causes or - vampirism ? The entire area where this horrific drama took place is shrouded in ,according to one old book, " .....a mystery which local people only reluctantly tried to penetrate. The mystery was helped physically by the thick shroud of trees that surrounded the place and was sustained by local tales of prioresses and nuns and of the death of Robin Hood......."

************************************************************************

THE HAUNTING OF ROBIN HOOD’S GRAVE

"Terribilis Est Locus Iste" Dreadful is this place - Abbe Berenger Sauniere, Renne-le-Chateau.

"The Armytage family lived over the brow of the hill on a splendid site once occupied by Cistercian nuns. It was called Kirklees. There was more than an insularity which set the mansion apart. There was a mystery about it which local people only reluctantly tried to penetrate. The mystery was helped physically by the thick shroud of trees that surrounded the place and was sustained by local tales of ghosts of prioresses and nuns and or the death of Robin Hood whose grave is so imperturbably marked as lying within Kirklees grounds in spite of any facts which might suggest to the contrary. " THE LAND OF LOST CONTENT.

This would appear to be the first reported mention of ghostly activity around Robin Hood's Grave, but considering the history of Robin's death - cursed by a witch on his way to the nunnery, murdered by an apostate nun and cast into an unhallowed grave - it is hardly surprising that the site is reputed to have unquiet spirits hovering around. An elderly lady, Mrs Edith Ellis, witnessed silver arrows in the sky above Kirklees when visiting her old aunt at Hartshead in the early years of the last century. She also reports hearing Robin calling for Marian.

Another sighting was made by a tenant farmer of Kirklees in 1926. "One day," he recalls, " I was sitting on the grave shooting rabbits. As I was about to shoot I felt a tap on my shoulder, and my shotgun went off accidentally, removing two of my front teeth on its recoil. There was nobody to be seen at the time. On another occasion I was on my way home from the Three Nuns. As I was walking through the woods something fell out of a tree and knocked me to the ground. When I got up I could see the old gatehouse. In the window I could clearly see a man with a bow. My family always said it was the drink, but it was Robin Hood's ghost."

In 1963 guitarist Roger Williams took an unofficial stroll up to Robin's grave with a friend. About twenty yards from the grave he saw a white robed woman who suddenly seemed to glide towards the two men. What made Roger's hair stand on end was how silently she moved over the twigs and bracken. At about five yards from Roger the woman stopped and stared at him with "dark, mad eyes." Then she moved away and vanished. It was 2.30 p.m. on a bright, sunny day. Roger Williams saw the same apparition again in 1972, in full daylight, and again she stopped a few yards from him and his companion. This time Roger remembered a few more details. The woman was wearing a

long white dress with a square neck and long sleeves which accords with the habit of a Cistercian nun. Again she looked at him angrily before moving off, but the eerie sequel to this experience was that Roger's house then experienced a series of strange noises and bangings. After this, Roger swore that "wild horses would not drag me up there again."

Mark Gibbons, one of the founder members of Gravewatch, had a similar experience

in 1998. With other members of the group he had gone up to try and find Robin's grave one moonlit night, but they had got lost. Suddenly Mark saw a white figure pointing in a certain direction - which turned out to be where the grave was situated. Mark also experienced a sensation of great evil and hatred.

Shortly after this a reporter Judith Broadbent, from the Dewsbury Reporter, and a photographer colleague, Sue Ellis were allowed to visit the gravesite by the owner. While wandering around she heard heavy footsteps behind her and she was pulled to the ground by invisible forces. She shouted "get away" and her friend came rushing to help her. Her camera had jammed while trying to photograph the grave. A week later Sue was taken seriously ill and was paralysed f from the neck downwards for two weeks. The two reporters later wrote this article up for Yorkshire Life magazine, much of its content being taken from Yorkshire Robin Hood Society literature, including the next sighting, which appeared in THE UNEXPLAINED magazine in 1992, prior to the publication of their article.

This was when vampires entered the arena, introduced to the increasing enigmatic situation by a Bishop of the Holy Grail Church and patron of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society. In 1992 the Bishop and two colleagues, attempted an exorcism at Kirklees. This had come about as a result of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society asking for the site to be blessed by the local vicar. Unfortunately permission to perform such a ceremony had been unequivocally refused to both clergymen. The Bishop, however, was made of sterner stuff than the local pastor ! He was renowned for his involvement in the notorious Highgate Vampire affair in the nineteen seventies and it occurred to him that vampires might be behind the legend of Robin being bled to death and this needed urgent spiritual intervention - and he was the man for the job, with or without official sanction ! Suffice to say that on his clandestine visit to the grave the bishop came across the body of a blood drained goat, diabolical rune signs of the priory gatehouse, fingr width holes in the ground round the grave - suggesting vampiric activity - and was confronted by a darkly clad woman who turned into a hag with red staring eyes.

A further sighting by another nocturnal visitor proved a terrifying experience when she saw two figures hovering in the trees surrounding the grave, who she took to be the evil prioress and her paramour Red Roger of Doncaster. " I felt, and saw, what I can only describe streams of evil pouring out of the trees towards me" the witness stated. A lady from Nottingham, who visited the grave in the summer of 2000, experienced a psychic communication with Robin at the graveside, as did Robin Hood expert John de Locksley of the London Robin Hood Club, who also boldly battled through the giant ferns, murderous brambles and other lethal obstacles of the Kirklees rain forest to stand by his hero's grave one wild, wet October night the same year !

It is true that Robin's grave was excavated in an amateurish way by a Victorian Armytage (who was reputed to be in his cups at the time) and the ground beneath found to be undisturbed, but the many historical documents naming Kirklees as Robin's final resting place cannot be ignored. The fact is, his bones could lie anywhere on that hillside, while a gravestone resembling the original one drawn by Dr Johnstone, is to be found in nearby Hartshead churchyard - to where it may have been moved during the Civil War.

Many visitors to the grave have recorded their experiences for posterity, including the following quote from a Victorian tourist :

"I had the strangest emotions when I first stood over the grave of this old forest hero. I stood there and had no words, nor can I find any now to tell what my feelings were. Bravehearted Robin ! Thou hast found a fit resting place in this glorious park, among these solemn yews and silent trees ."A hundred years later it is a different story:

"There it was, looming out of the dark, a massive, broken edifice, a huge ship of stone, wrecked in the everglades of Kirklees. Fallen pillars and twisted railings were were all that remained on Yorkshire's buried treasure. We had found Robin Hood's Grave."

MARK GIBBONS, SECRETS OF THE GRAVE.

Maybe the last word should be with Victorian poet, George Searle Phillips, a friend of the Brontes, who visited the grave in 1848, and wrote an epic poem, a small section of which is printed below :

Tread lightly o'er the earth and speak no word

Till the Great Spirit doth unloose your tongues

For where those yew trees nod their funereal plumes

Upon the highest platform of the hill,

Lies gentle Robin Hood, his mighty heart

All muffled up in dust and his bright eyes

Quenched in eternal darkness. Never more

Shall the woods echo to his bugle horn,

Or his unerring arrow strike the deer

Swift flying, till it hits the bloody grass.

Update of Exorcism 2005

Robin Hood's Ghost finally laid to Rest Two renowned psychic researchers from London, David Farrant, President of

the British Psychic and Occult Society, and Gareth Medway, distinguished author of Lure of the Sinister, have hastened north in order to rescue two distressed damsels, members of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society.

Un-merry maidens Catherine Fearnley and Barbara Green have for some time now been coming under attack, from malevolent forces that are said to lurk around the famous outlaw's grave at Kirklees in West Yorkshire. These sinister influences, said to be the ghost of the prioress who murdered Robin and then turned into a vampire, have in the past been successful in undermining the legend of Robin Hood of Yorkshire, and Robin's Grave has been left in a derelict condition, rotting away in the deep, dark mysterious woods of the Kirklees estate near Brighouse.

Barbara and Catherine have tried to bring Robin out from under his dusty cloak of secrecy and to restore his grave to its former glory, but to no avail. Their efforts have been thwarted by forces beyond their control, some of them of a supernatural origin.

Enter Sir Gareth and Sir David, who came galloping to the rescue armed with their magical accoutrements and other occult equipment, and staged a full-scale exorcism at Robin's Grave after dark, to banish the evil forces said to lurk there, and to free the spirit of Robin Hood and the wicked prioress from their torments.

Their lengthy ritual, following an arduous secret trek to the grave last night, was based on ancient esoteric tradition known only to a few, and was completely successful in that the powers of darkness at the grave have now been fully dispersed.

YORKSHIRE ROBIN HOOD SOCIETY SUMMARY 1983--2009

1983 Barbara Green asked to visit Sir John Armytage at Kirklees Hall. She is she is a District Nurse. She helps to nurse him through his last illness.

1983-4- Sir John RIP... Lady Armytage inherits the estate, later sells the hall for flats, the stepson become the baronet and moves away.BG  asks Lady Armytage at a later date if she might visit Robin Hood's Grave as she recalls her father saying it is behind the Three Nuns Inn but no-one can visit it. Lady A takes BG and her mother to visit the grave.

1983-5- BG becomes interested in the legend and does research. She writes a book called Marian's Christmas Rose about MM with reference to Kirklees AND asks LA if she can bring the book to the Kirklees Annual Garden Party.

1986 Lady A and her "organiser " Mrs James pay an uninvited visit to BG’s home, Mrs James waves the book around and complains it mentions Kirklees. She says that it cannot be sold at Kirklees and that no-one can visit RHG at the garden party. Lady A remains silent through-out

1985 Ruth Harrington and BG form the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society . Lady A builds a new house on the priory ruins.

1985 Lady Armytage asked to become patron but declineS.

1985 BG and RH are filmed by Look North in Shibden Park because Lady A wont allow film crew at the grave

1986 YRHS are in the National Press over a visit to Nottingham selling Marian Christmas Rose which caused a rumpus.

1987 Ruth and BG are filmed by TV for a programme called FAX in Wakefield library because they are again refused permission at KK (Kirklees) . It never gets broadcast.

1987 Ruth and BG visit London and meet John Pope de Locksley of the London Robin Hood Club and Lord SM who offers to become Patron of the YRHS which is accepted. SM is a "vampire hunter" they learn later, and descended from Lord Byron.

1988 Evelyn and BG are filmed for the BBC "People" but they are not allowed to go to the grave though the film crew are provided they dont say where it is. Our comments about the grave are edited out.

!985-1990 Several letters written to Lady Armytage asking if the YRHS can visit the grave and gatehouse. All letters either ignored or send back saying she is too busy.

1987 BG writes manuscript The Outlaw Robin Hood his Yorkshire Legend and takes it to Calderdale Council. Jane Branton Tourist Officer says it is good but they cant publish as they have to keep a "low profile" over Kirklees. Same happens elsewhere with other councils --for five years! Paul Sheenan the director of Calderdale said he had to protect Lady Armytage's privacy.AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE OWNER OF THE LAND!!!!!!!

1988- Ruth and BG summoned to Kirklees for interview with Lady Armytage and Martin Webster. Lady A says that THE " Robin Hood business is a nuisance" but agrees that the society can visit.

1988-90 Another letter s sent to Lady A to arrange visit which she does not reply to but Martin Webster the farm manager phones BG in a threatening way and says no visit was promised.

2)

1989--Drew Hartley visits BG with his cameraman wishing to make FILM of the local Robin Hood legend. This subsequently falls through due to threats he receives and other strange matters--his investigators were visited by men in black and much more--he abandons project.

1988----John Akins buys the Cornmmill on Wakefield Rd with plans to turn it into "Robin Hood hamlet." He requests info from the YRHS. Later he abandons this plan and says he wants nothing to do with Robin Hood (in 2005 a man who knew him from the Huddersfield Collectors said he had been "leaned on" by Calderdale Council not to publicise Robin Hood’s local connections )

1988 Trust House Forte build a new hotel nearby and the same situation as above. They say they cant put anything about RobinHood in as the grave is on private land.

1985--1990--Letters sent to English Heritage, National Trust, Save Britain's Heritage, Yorkshire Archaeological Society etc--all say the same--they cant do anything about the grave or gatehouse because it would upset Lady A's privacy.

1989 East Midlands Tourist Board published a brochure about Robin Hood Country and missed out the grave. BG contacted Peter Allan its chief officer and asked him why the grave had not been mentioned. He said Calderdale Council had forbidden them to put it in!!! BG said they could not stop him. Mr Allan said CC were acting on instructions from a "higher authority>"

1989 Tales of Robin Hood opened in Nottingham, they had asked BG for info on the grave. BG went to have a look and saw a picture of the grave and three locations for it which were not in Yorkshire! She asked the manager Graham Black why he had made this mistake and he said it was not a mistake--BG could not get a sensible answer from him! He wrote a rude letter saying she was paranoid--because she had suggested he had been told by You Know Who not to put the proper location of Kirklees on his map.

1990---1992 During this time the YRHS got many reports of paranormal activity around the grave. The society asked the Church to do a blessing. Father John Flack agreed to do it but then got told off by the Bishop of Wakefield who had got a flea in his ear from Kirklees. Bishop Genders of CR did a blessing from Mirfield. Irate letter from the Bishop of Pontefract about the society’s concerns over the site being on a ley line etc, causing all the bad luck, witchcraft suspected of going on.

1991 Father Lionel Fanshaw from Fortean TV was going to come off but it was called off at the last minute.

1991 The Outlaw Robin Hood finally published by Kirklees Cultural Heritage.

1991 BG was asked to be on a TV programme about Kirklees but it was called off at the last minute and they got someone else.

1991 ONE SUCCESS--ZDF--A German tv company did a Robin Hood film and we were included, filming at Hartshead Church--they were allowed by the graveside but the YRHS weren't.

1991--YRHS did various radio broadcasts but there often seemed to be hitches, Evelyn had problems with Radio Leeds. Ian Clayton was asked by Drew about doing Robin Hood--she said he would love to but "they" wouldn touch it with a bargepole.

1991 Bishop SM , YRHS patron, who is now a bishop of the Old Catholic Church, allegedly led a vampire hunt up to the graveside.

1992---1999---BG was ill with a heart complaint and also looking after her parents so nothing happened during these years.

3)

1998 BG GOT A COMPUTER . She attacked on an Internet Message Board the World Wide Robin Hood Society by John Armytage who accuses her of all sorts of nonsense , having got his "facts" from certain people and got the whole story muddled up. As can quite clearly be seen from the previous information and chronology, the YRHS met a brick wall of obstruction from the word go.

2002-- Bradford University approach the YRHS to assist in film about Robin Hood of Yorkshire.( In 2004 found out that the film ended up at the censors of Kirklees . )

2002 Outlaws and Nuns walks started, Yorkshire Robin Hood Society refused permission to promote their books and postcards by David Norcliffe, the head gamekeeper of Kirklees.

8.8.02 A letter written by D H, A  friend of Lady A  who lives with his friend, an Armytage relative , at Kirklees , was published on the Fortean Times Message Board with defamatory comments about BG. It was written to SM who DH  later told me he thought was crackers. BG met DH the day after he wrote this letter about her . BG thought they had sorted a few problems out with the Kirklees situation, that was why BG had asked for the meeting, but all the time he was going round her back writing tittle tattle, though he did not realise SM was going to publish it! He gave BG no satisfactory explanation as to why he had written this derogatory letter, but by then he had moved onto Kirklees territory in some kind of gamekeeping/ minder/ historian capacity with his friend  so he knew which side he bread was buttered.

2003 BG took part in Scream Team TV interview but wasn't allowed at Kirklees, but it actually went out on air. Scream Team was allowed an all night vigil at Kirklees when  SM had been refused. David Hepworth said they trespassed but this seemed very unlikely and Ronnie Buckingham their medium said they did not trespass.

2004 Discovered that the Bradford University project had ended up pn the Kirklees cutting room floor .

Attacks a gainst the YRHS especially BG , continue by people who dont know the true facts on message boards. All these old --and some barely shaving---professors from America, cap-doffing  attacking the YRHS because  THEY  had been allowed to visit Robin Hoods Grave when a local historical group, the YRHS had always been refused--(which eventually led them to trespass., as Robin would have suggested they did himself!) They did not seem to appreciate the unjustness of this, or that  they ahd only been allowed because they were deemed too "important" to fob off.

2004 BG attended International Conference for Outlaws Studies in York to try and sort the professors and suchlike out--lectured on the Prioress.

2004 CF a local woman, was given permission from Lady a to visit the grave, which struck her and BG as very odd, as LA usually only allowed "important" people access.

2004 Red Monkey Film Company ask to interview the YRHS for their film about Robin Hood of Yorkshire.

2005 Tony Robinson from Time Team allowed onto Kirklees and got on TV saying he had more or less made all these discoveries about Yorkshire and RHG--which we had alread published despite being obstructed . BG and CF find out from Richard Rutherford Moore that his research team had been told not to approach the YRHS. BG contacted the Researchers and they said they had been told to keep away from the YRHS as they were "dodgy" but wouldnt name names.

2005 David Farrant leads a blessing ceremony at the graveside, filmed by Red Monkey

2006   Colin Hamer, a former priest, arrives in Brighouse unexpetedly. He lurks round BG'S HOUSE at night knocking on her door and leaves some sweets on her birdtable with a note. He then goes to CF'S HOUSE AT 7.30 AM AND taknes her some sado masochistic things which she throws in the bin. Later he phones her and says that eh is going to blow up Robin Hoods Grave. She tells David Hepworth  and reports it to the police, who arent interested. Later DH phones her to say that Colin Hamer did visit and played croquet on the lawn with  Lady Armytage and 2 nuns! He returns to Exeter and is sectioned.

2007 Some kind of problem going on with Red Monkey film connected with footage taken at Kirklees and looking like a repeat performance of all that has gone before! Red Monkey refused to reply to any polite questions about what has happened, though it is rumoured Lady Armytage was being "difficult." As onLY a small bit of the film was done at the gravesite, it is hard to see what she ahs to do with it, or why  A simple reconstruction woudl not suffice, which does away with any interference from Kirklees altogether.

October 2007 Drew Hartley states that M15 have been involved and that the £50 million pound Heritage Fund is concerned that that Yorkshire Robin Hood connections will spoil the Nottingham Tourist Industry, and everyone in Notts will lose their jobs. He has this info from important people he meets while filming at Baftas. Also he maintains he was followed by men in black and attacked while involved with the situation, so he withdrew. The local librarian also said she would help then withdrew her assistance without explanation.

November , 2007 . Red Monkey Film Company still refusing to answer e mails about why the film has not been  released.

DECEMBER 2008   BG  contacts the Revd Dhodi Craigh Wilde the vicaress of Hartshead Church to ask about selling The Outlaw Robin Hood at the church. She gets her secretary to write back and refuse with no explanation. It turns out that she is a very  close friend of Lady Armytage who , it also transpires, gives a great deal of money to Hartshead Church  ( talk given to a local group 2009 where this information is offered.)

*******************************************************************************************************************

So, what are we to make of all this? Is it a CONSPIRACY or is it simply the selfish whims of the aristocracy who wish to continue their privileged existence of blood sports and house parties undisturbed by the common hoardes . Or is it something more sinister, involving the occult and certain people seeking to control the network of   ley lines around  Robin Hood's Grave, for their own nefarious purposes.  The story of Robin Hood is well known but that of his death and the site where it took place, and of the evil prioress, her lover and the naughty nuns of Kirklees, less so. Yet this bloody saga still has a strange echo with the mysterious goings on today. The final extinction of the Armytage dynasty may have finally come to pass, yet the  centuries old  secret of Robin Hood's Grave remains jealously guarded by its newly-fledged keepers who continue to strictly maintain their late mistress's orders. While the evil influence of the prioress still casts her dark shadow over this mysterious and haunted spot.

Robin Hood and his Curry Men--new patron for yrhs
