It seems there are multiple accounts for 2012 marking a 'great change', or in some circles such as the Bible, Hinduism and Native/Mexican Indians, the coming of 'The Great Purification'. One way or the other, religious prophecy appears to be pointing to this time period, this "window of opportunity"..

2012 is the most hyped date, though some believe it is part of a cycle that started around 2000, that we are in the middle of, which will culminate in 2012 with some tramatic event (s). Others set it to 2020, or within the next decade or two. Everything from Pole Shift, to consciousness shift, war to peace, have been theorised in this time period, largely based on the end of the Mayan calendar, and the prophecies of various major religions.

Some believe we actually will shift in our planetary orbit, and this is why the Mayan calendar ceases at 2012 because there will be a new mode of recording time, days and nights will begin to change in this year. There are believers of mysticism and 'conspiracy' which feel that the 'Ancients', the 'Illuminati', have been keeping track of this event for many thousands of years, back into Egypt and even before. That they in fact based history, religion and politics upon this pole shift that was to occure during this era..

Me? I think something major will indeed 'change the world' by 2012. There will be much more death and bloodshed, as well as an exponential 'awakening'. I couldn't say though that a meteor is going to destroy billions of people, or that the Sun is going to send off a solar flare that wipes out half the life on the planet.. However, it's clear to see that planetary changes are taking place at dramatic levels, and the melting of the ice-caps could be part of a cycle that takes place at least every few thousand years. We're definitely in a 'up' cycle in terms of solar activity, and this could effect us for at least the next couple decades, if not for the next few hundred years or more..

Will this tip the balance of the earth to a new axis? I couldn't say, though it's not impossible. I will say though that to me it seems unlikely that the earth will shift axis and that we will have to devise new ways to calculate time and our rotation and orbit around the Sun. Mostly, i believe this kind of talk to be a fear tactic, though we can't deny the changes our planet is going through, and the effects that man-made pollution has on our environment.

The interesting part is that 2012, or this Era, is spoken of in most of the world's religions as being time of drastic change, and the 'end of an age'. From the destructive dance of Kali setting the Yuga's back to the beginning, to the Great Purification, the return of Christ and Quetzelcoatl, and even the resurrection of the great Egyptian mythos, we are living in some very interesting times..

Not to mention Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce and others all pointing to this period. I'd like to think we can ALL have an effect on this time period, and can hopefully influence things for the better instead of buying into all of the FEAR and the plans and deceptions of the New World Order...

I would also like to point out that we are meant to really start to see the change towards the end in 2006/7. This is predicted when global warming will take full effect (the UK government unofficially know this) and a new war in the middle east will start, bringing on the destruction of the US and the last day/golden age.

I have an old piece of sheet music from the late 40's called "Till the End of Time".

My mother told me that some person or group made a prediction that the world would end within a year or two, so somebody wrote the song based on that theory.

A lot of people thought the year 2000 would bring about the end.

I don't worry about it anymore.  The Bible says that only G-d knows, not even Jesus knows the day that the world will end.  So it would just be fantasy to think that we humans can predict it by any means.

2012 is just like the year 1987, 1204, 1560.. What do these 4 have incommon? They are numbers and tell us what year it is, its not an expire date on a foodtype of any kind.. Seriously, come on..

What really worries me is the climate changes, the global warming, if the Earth doesn't end in 2012, it won't take long.

Hollow is right, numbers don't matter now but the state of what will be left of this planet. It doesn't make sence, it took so long for this planet to become a planet we live in today and now it'll be destroyed by men is less than 3000 years, how sad. We have the global warming, extinct animals, North/South pole melting (goodbye Santa Claus), desertification, the Amazon forest burning, war, human population of 8 billion (i think) more than the world can hold,etc. Anyone ever had the impression that there are TOO MANY people on earth?(...) Somehow I have this bad feeling of the human race dying out slowly, people like me can't take heat easy, and I got a severe sunburn walking home from the center of the city. (Who needs a tan anyways...)

Didnt we all say about this about 2000 and hasnt this been said all through history and nothing come of it? I believe that the end is coming but I dont think you can pin it to a certain year but then again I believe in stranger stuff then 2012.

Actually, that info would have been false and the Y2K would really end in 2001. This would be because there is no 0 year.
