Director Drops Out of The Wolfman
Source: Variety
January 29, 2008

Director Mark Romanek has dropped out of Universal Pictures The Wolfman, reports Variety.

The trade says Romanek exited the film late Monday night over creative differences. The film has long had Benicio Del Toro aboard to play the werewolf, and the studio just set Emily Blunt (Charlie Wilson's War) and Anthony Hopkins to play the other leads in the film.

Universal maintains that Romanek left the project in strong shape and that it expects to set another director quickly. No word on whether a Feb. 18 start date will remain in place.

The studio is targeting a February 13, 2009 release date for the horror flick.

It's a setback but at least they're still going ahead with the movie.

It will be interesting to see how this one will turn out

Do you think it might turn out decent Quest?

It's hard to say.  I do hear that it's a rather radical update of the original, so they appear to be departing from the original storyline a lot.

IMO when they do remakes I would rather see them stick to the original storyline, or close to it

I have not seen to many remakes that impressed me

I would agree on that.  The Wolfman was an extremely good story, and I always liked the rather tortured aspect to the character.  He knew his wolfish alter-ego was doing wrong, hated it, but had no control over it.  Plus his own father wouldn't believe his story.
