Robert Johnson

"Crossroad Blues", "Hellhound On My Trails", "Me And The Devil Blues"? If your familiar with Robert Johnson you'll know what I'm talking about. I'be heard the legend that he sold hid soul but is any of it true?

Doubtful at best. While Robert Johnson was a real person, the legend of his miraculous skill is nothing but myth. Note that it is based solely in christian mythology and that the numerology involved even has a decidedly christian flavor to it. I seriously doubt that any devil worth the title of the vilest Evil would bother with such an insignificant soul. Even when you tally in the millions allegedly swayed to the Darkness by the music that is Robert Johnson's legacy, it's still not an efficient expenditure of will and effort. A lesser demon, assuming they exist? Certainly. Satan himself? Certainly not.

All mythology tells of demon deals. Maybe it wasn't the devil himself but the old crossroad deals are all over the globe and the demon will grant almost any wish for that one individual soul to add to its collection. Yes it has a lot of Christian basis but that's because Robert Johnson was Christian. A Faustian Deal for talent and fame is quite common in mythology but at the same time he may have played on it for popularity. Who knows, personally I believe he did.

the spirit he sold his soul to wasnt the devil as many would understand but one of the many gods and spirits of vodun also known as the black man
the wind that chills the night, the fire's golden light
the oceans call to you, the earthen fated tune,
I am the ivy binding tight i hold the spells all through the night, i am
nightshade's fated swoon of deaths kiss and witches broom

Its kinda weird though when you think of it, all of the best people (musician wise)  seem to die at such early ages.

Robert Johnson (debatebly the best Blues Man who ever lived.)

Hendrix (One of the best guitarists of his time.)

Jim Morrison (Best poet and frontman of his time.)

Bonham (Best drummer of the era in my opinion)

The list goes on,  now taking the fact that most of those musicians came from a time where drug experimentation and overdoses were a relatively common occurence, you can't really deny that many musicians seemed to die unexpectedly and far before their time of expiration. Coincidence? or something strange like a sold soul?

it has nothing to do with any demonic pack...any person in that sort of party hard live high lifestyle will self destruct when living to the extreme, look at their lifestyles.

fame, popularity, money, not sure who are their real friends, a wide assortment of drugs, alcohol and other options to escape reality all the while living up to higher standards then the fans that never leave you alone.  pink floyd's the wall demonstrated this type of breakdown very well, too much stress, seriously messed up brain chemicals and not enough constructive release will make anyone explode.

they're now discovering that highly intelligent, creative people are even more likely to engage in such behaviors than those who are little more dull.  it's hard living in a world seeing it on a level that so few people seem to comprehend, i'm not talking supernatural things here but how one sees the world, with symbols, words or images...try translating that to people who can't perceive the explosion of chaotic thought you suffer daily without you figuring out how to simplify the senses for a third party observation, those that do it well excell and often times burn out as quickly.

most people in my art department partake in some form of intoxication frequently, but we have physical mediums to translate our thoughts that are easier to manipulate and expressly viewed by people who have an understanding and appreciation for such expression...not everyone can understand words or music and i feel for those who best present themselves through those techniques, so much of the person goes into their creation for the world to consume that they're always left a little empty with so little spiritual return.

genius always causes insanity...

Yah that is true.  Jim Morrison was able to get his message out through not only performing but through poetry and such but for some reason he was reall obsessed with death and also accessing like a higher world of perception through hallucinogens.

I just think its so strange how people with such talent and ability to influence the masses die out so young.  I mean they really just take whatevers out there and give it a whole new spin and really twist culture.

But anyway i was just saying how weird it was that talented people tend to die young.  Robert Johnson though seemed to put occult in his lyrics, not sure if it was just for the hype but its odd.
