Now we all agree that Twilight is not a real vampire movie and that 30 Days of Night is just a horror movie, what vampire movie best express your feeling about the Vampire ?

As far as I am concerned, one that really impressed me at the time is The Hunger (Les prédateurs) with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. The second one is the first Nosferatu by Murnau with Max Schreck --- Amazing !
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist." - Charles Baudelaire (French and monstrous poet).

They all have their merits

One that comes to mind is 1931 Dracula with Bela Lugosi, after that the 1991 Dracula with Gary Oldman playing the part, sorry but IMO Gary Oldman is one of the best at playing villians
What do you want, you moon-faced assassin of joy?

We walk in the dark places no others will enter. We stand on the bridge and no-one may pass. We live for the One, we die for the One

I'm going out on a limb, but hopefully the supposed upcomming move of "The Necroscope"  I was on Lumly's home page ( just happened to run across it actually ) and they are in the works for producing such an endeavor.  However, you know hollywood, they'll most likely butcher the story, and get it all bassackwards.

Any word on who it's starring?

Agree that Coppola's Dracula with Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins ... is a best time favorite.

  Not as of yet.

At least Lumley will be in an advisory position on it and the guys directing and producing are meant to be fans but you're all right; Hollywood business, who knows what's really going down. I read somewhere "Necroscope Premise/Synopsis: Premise is about college kids that find a telescope-like device that steals human souls. "  :| Which doesn't sound so promising... Some people are saying this info is wrong though, which is good.

I don't see how you'd use CGI in a film like that. An example; for me, personally, the Wamphyri aren't even remotely human when in full flow how the hell are they going to be depicted? The closest effects I could imagine would be the creature transformations/designs from the Kurt Russel version of 'the Thing'... but somehow that would entirely cut it. To be successful I think the movie will need subtle but intense CGI- to enhance the horror and otherworldliness of the Wamphyri and really get across the mood of the film. But CGI used in the wrong way removes all realism from a movie, this can't be allowed to happen in Necroscope.

Gonna be interesting to see what they do with this movie... when someone has a casting list, please for the love of god post.

Good vamp movies? What did you guys think of Kindred the embraced?

i guess i have to say here is that i really liked the movie adaptation of anne rice's "interview with a vampire".

It wasn't bad though it wasn't good enough.
Brad Pitt acts through the whole movie like a pretty painted doll, and I would take someone else for Tom Cruise's part, someone nore charismatic.
I'll have to agree that Coppola's Dracula is the best one yet - it has the vampire love story which beats the damn sissy Twilight in so many ways, it has the cool vampire hunter, it has some dark erotic intencity, it has style, most of all, and it has humor.
And the cast is also undeniably great.

Well I don't know who wrote that synopsis, but it is completely wrong, so worry not over that part.  The Necroscope is a man who is able to breach the veil of death, and speak directly to the dead.  In this way he is able to learn what they knew in a fairly short amount of time, and used that knowledge to accomplish many goals.  I'll not ruin it by being to descriptive, but there are also precogs, locators, ect... in the book to counter the Wamphyri threat.

I know what the story is meant to be, hence why I was so worried about the synopsis I found. But you have to be right, there's no way they can fit this idea of 'college students finding a soul-stealing device' into the actual plot line of The Necroscope.

I know it's not you  Roy, but could you direct me to where you found that synopsis?  I would like to chew on their asses for a bit, because I have read all but two of the Necroscope books, and not once have i run across such a device mentioned.  Closest to come would be an interrogative device the Russians employ to completely drain a persons mind, leaving them a a lifeless husk.

<Bozlem Stu>
Just been looking on the web for news of the film and the only thing i can find is on www.thezreview.co.uk/comingsoon/n/necroscope.htm (http://www.thezreview.co.uk/comingsoon/n/necroscope.htm) the following is all the have on the film: "Necroscope Premise/Synopsis: Premise is about college kids that find a telescope-like device that steals human souls. "

The site doesn't have a review up anymore, when I found this thread it was still working. When I find another post of that review and a working source I'll let you know.

However if you go half way down the page in this next link then you can see supporting evidence that the previous site, synopsis and review did exist, if only I could read the tiny thumbnail http://community.livejournal.com/lumley_vampires/12632.html)
