Frog the size of a small dog

Insanity is a fun state of mind. I can amuse myself and have my friends wanting to get me a straight jacket and a padded room.

Oh yeah, I saw an article about this thing a few days ago, the Goiath Frog.  Yeah, it makes perfect sense tho me that something like this could exist, the reason though that it's not too common for frogs to be this big is that all animals have a size-efficiency curve, and this one is on the far end: it simply cannot be sustained in most places.  I'm guessing it's endangered.... *looks it up* yep according to Wikipedia, its official status is "Endangered", and it's only found in a tiny part of Africa.

Would it be possible to breed them in captivity? It'd be a shame to let a species like that die out.

TRUE. I hate when animals  becomes extinct. I read that they are very difficult to breed in captivity.

This made me remember this today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CL2hetqpfg, and yes, it falls under my "creepy insect" shadow totem thing, only not at this size, smaller ones. (don't ask me why)

I am positive they are doing so right now, as they do that with all protected species.  However: I think you need to keep in mind what I said about why it's endangered, and why it's in such a small area.  This is not a species which can support itself, it's simply too big to survive, natural selection would weed them out on its own.

If you could make them a commerically viable species, French and Chinese diners would be delighted.  Imagine their immense  joy when they tuck into those enormous legs.

natural selection would weed them out on its own.
Which is why it's so unfortunate that people are interfering.
I don't mind that, I think it's good that people try to keep rare species around for posterity's sake.  The alternative is to kill them just because they're in the way.... <!<;;

LOL! I would say so! XD
Edit: um... did I just use "lol" in a forum post?  Oh dear....
