The main steriotype for fairies which I have fought to elimanate in some parts of the internet are the small little women with fancy butterfly wings. The main one I have attempted to inforce is the small little man as the main kind. But I have not explained the terrible fairies who take joy in harming humans. There is the Far Dorocha (The Dullahan), the Far Liath (The Gray Man), the Changeling, the Red Cap, Goblins, certain Trolls, the Cu Sith, phooka, the slaugh sidhe, and most fairies in general.

The Far Dorocha is the Dullahan, the terrible headless horseman of the fairy world. He works and is completely loyal to the fairy queen. He runs through the night and kidnaps the souls of the living during death and during the night. He will chase anyone he finds through the night, whips their eyes with a long human spine whip and throws a bucket of blood into peoples faces when they come to look out their doors to see what is going on. He sometimes rides a coach run by several headless horses. No man is safe from the dullahan for all doors and gates open and unlock for him.

The Grey Man
The Grey Man or Far Liath appears as a fog and covers land and sea with his mantle. He obscures the rocks so that ships crash upon them and darkens the road so that travelers unwittingly stumble over steep cliffs to their deaths. Because of him many a galleon was wrecked and many a mortal never returned home for dinner. (I'll put more on him when I'm not so tired.)



A Red Cap or Redcap, also known as a powrie or dunter, is a type of malevolent murderous goblin, elf or fairy found in British folklore. They inhabit ruined castles found along the border between England and Scotland. Redcaps are said to murder travelers who stray into their homes and dye their hats with their victims' blood (from which they get their name).[1] Indeed, redcaps must kill regularly, for if the blood staining their hats dries out, they die. Redcaps are very fast in spite of the heavy iron pikes they wield and the iron-shod boots they wear. Outrunning the buck-toothed little daemons is quite impossible; the only way to escape one is to quote a passage from the Bible. They lose a tooth on hearing it, which they leave behind.

The most infamous redcap of all was Robin Redcap. As the familiar of Lord William de Soulis, Robin wreaked much harm and ruin in the lands of his master's dwelling, Hermitage Castle. Men were murdered, women cruelly abused, and dark arts were practiced. So much infamy and blasphemy was said to have been committed at Hermitage Castle that the great stone keep was thought to be sinking under a great weight of sin, as though the very ground wanted to hide it from the sight of God.

Yet Soulis, for all the evil he wrought, met a very horrible end: he was taken to the Nine Stane Rigg, a circle of stones hard by the castle, and there he was wrapped in lead and boiled to death in a great cauldron

Cu Sith

(Pronounced coo shee) Cu Sith was a phantom hound that haunted the Scottish Highlands and parts of Ireland said to be owned by faeries. He would cross the realm of the Faery to ours to seek out mortal victims. Men would hear his blood curtling barks from the hills and hide their wives for they knew what he had come to take. The Cu Sith would come and steal mortal women to use their milk for Faery children. The beast was normally the size of a cow or calf and was dark green or black.

Phooka

A solitary Faery by nature, the Phooka is a very mischievous type of Faery. Its’ true from is an ugly goblin like creature, but it takes the form of many animals. Such a horse, rabbit, goat, dog, and eagle. The Phooka can be easily picked out because of its’ sleek black hair. When taking the form of a horse it will stand in the open hoping for a mortal to think of it as a wild pony, as the human comes apon its back it will shoot off bringing the poor man for a hell of a ride. Eventually the Phooka will dump the mortal into a bog, pond, or ditch, laugh and gallop away. Like all Faeries the Phooka is very active during dusk and twilight. So be warned travellers of the night, do not hop onto a stray pony’s back!


The Unseelie Court

The Unseelie Court or the Unblessed Court is pretty much the opposite of the Seelie. In mortal eyes they are considered the “bad” Faery Folk, who kidnap there children and wives and take them to the Twilight realm and hold them as slaves, torture, or take them as wives and have children. The Unseelie Court has the nastiest of the Faeries and monsters to horrible to describe, they, like the Seelie ride the winds to get around. They do mischief to mortals the run into. The ‘Host’ or the Slaugh takes the form of a swarm of black birds and flies the winds and goes into houses to steal the soles of the dieing to bring back to their realm to do who knows what.  Though they seem evil, the Unseelie look to the future and try to break old traditions of the Seelie and wish to bring change to the world. This is why they are rivals of the Seelie, and are in constant battle with them, for one wish to keep things as they are in peace, while the other wants change by force. But remember; avoid the Unseelie by all means, for you do not even have to offend them to suffer their wrath.

This is pretty interesting, actually, even though faries aren't my thing.  It's always nice to see where games (like White Wolf's Changling) comes up with their stuff and also how much of it  doesn't match the true folklore. Red Caps I've seen in many different places, but I never knew all that about them!  Thanks for the info.
