Title: Patron Dieties
Post by: Countess on August 19, 2011, 05:16:35 PM
After nearly 2 decades as a Wiccan, I have actually discovered my male patron dieties. All my life I had always felt more connected to female dieties. Kali, Diana, & Venus being the three I felt closest too. We are preparing for a trip to Egypt soon & I was doing a little research to "bone-up" on my Egyptian mythology. During this time I realized Sobek & Anubis were my Patrons. I have always loved Anubis, no idea why, but never thought of him as a possibility since I felt no real connection to the Egyptian pantheon. Sobek is the crocodile god, a seemingly obvious choice for me but he is also a protector of mothers. This is something all my patrons have in common along with protecting animals. I was wondering if anyone wanted to share who their dieties are & what it was that drew you to them?

Wolfman, the first question is, are you pagan? The patrons I am talking about refer to the dieties a pagan/wiccan/etc feels most connected. If the answer is yes, then it may just take time for you to find the one(s).

I have only really learned about greek and egyption, but out of those gods, I would guess Thoth. But I don't know much about the whole patron thing, so I could be completely off. If any body has some info they could give me, or somewhere reliable that I could do a search on, that would be appriciated. But don't suggest the monstropedia, cause my antivirus doesn't allow that to come up.

Anubis came to me in a reading and asked me to call on him for protection. Awesome. So I did and how thankful I am because of it. I've resonated well with Bast (luna) and Sekhmet (solar) who continue to be a strong influence. I love all things feline.. so I found it interesting when Anubis came to the forefront. Yet unsurprising.. Anubis =  Jackel (dog) so once again a balance, only this time the feline/feminine aspect. I am strongly drawn to Egyptian pantheon, I have come to realise that I had lived and died during its reign on the world at that time.

Mine was up here.

Coatlicue aka Teteoinan (  :-D )
Aztec mythology as the Mother of Gods, and the patron deity for people who die in childbirth.

As for why she clicked with me...
Let's just say I've had some nasty experiences...

I've been dreaming about Nyx lately. Wonder if she's someone I should be considering?

That could mean Mora as well...

"The dream lover called the Mara was a thief cloaked in darkness. Taking vapor form, she slipped into sleeping chambers through tiny chinks and crevices, then assumed the shape of a woman to claim the souls of men."

"An implacable despoiler and an enemy of humankind from the beginning of time, Lilith the Seducer slid into men's dreams, stealing her victims' vigor and shattering their spirits."

That, would suck to be you Azzy.

I've been dreaming about Nyx lately. Wonder if she's someone I should be considering?

"Born of primal Chaos, the Greek Goddess Nyx soared across the sky each night, draping the heavens with her black veil and bejeweling her trail with stars."

Post your dreams in the Dreaming section, and we can talk about it!

I just recently realized that my connection to Innana (as I already told T) is way stronger than I first figured. I base this opinion on not only dreams and visions but even to the bizzare similarities in character and preferences.

Let us just see who my patron deity is by taking a look at me...I'm a musician, I'm a writer, I'm a poet, I'm an archer, I know three languages, I'm a sun-worshiper (as in the "touristy" kind  ) and I'm a Were (strong connection to wolves)...

Let us just say that my Patron deity is Apollo and call it a day... :-P

I was doing a social studies project on Apollo in Junior year and he just called out to me so strongly, how similar we were...he clicked with me so much...his relationship with his sister Artemis and my relationship with my late sister Kate is so similar too...I see so much of myself in Apollo it's not even funny and that's why he is my Patron deity...

@5arah - Woot! Two Apollo peoples on one forum, how cool is that! 8-)
