"On September 28th, 2011, the "Red Tide" hit San Diego shores. The neon-blue waves are not digitally created or altered from their original form.
This video was shot at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, Calif & North Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, Calif."

Oh, right, i love that too, its plankton, lil sea thingies that light up if u move them. We have those here as well. When you go night swimming they surround you and as you swim everything lights up, like magick. Its really surreal.
-
I know the ones you are talking about Nina they are really cool. These waves were caused by Red Tide which is algea & is not something you would want to swim in.
-
It normally shows up Green or Red though, yeah?
Phytoplankton... so aren't you both right? :-)
-
Yeah, we are, lol, only these arent red algae, these are plankton, and no one died of it yet :) so Im not worried. At least i think algae arent plankton?!
-
Well that's what I mean... I thought phytoplankton was a form of plankton. Algae, Jellyfish... all plankton forms. It's been YEARS since I had any biology classes, and marine biology was touched on for all of about a week so I don't remember.
-
Jellyfish aren't in the same category although many species do exhibit bioluminescence. The luminescent phytoplankton are totally harmless. Red tide isn't necessarily directly dangerous to humans but eating animals affected by it can be. It is also a eco disaster since it screws up the whole food chain & causes massive die offs.

Well alrighty then! :-D So, as pretty as it is, it's not really good at all.
It's not like I really have to worry about it I guess, I'm not over in Cali, and I dislike fish.
