Title: Teenage vampire killer
Post by: Loki on September 17, 2003, 01:47:50 PM
TEENAGE killer is trying to get his conviction for murdering a North Wales pensioner quashed.

Mathew Hardman will ask three top judges next month to let his lawyers spell out why he should be freed from jail.

"He is determined to prove his innocence," said his solicitor last night.

Legal experts believe some evidence should not have been given to the jury at his trial last year, including claims he was obsessed with vampires.

The lawyers are working unpaid on the appeal bid, after Hardman was refused legal aid.

They have vowed to take it to a justice watchdog if the Appeal Court bid fails.

The 18-year-old is serving life for killing pensioner Mabel Leyshon at her Anglesey home in November 2001.

It was claimed in court he cut out the heart of the 90-year-old and drank her blood in an attempt to become a vampire.
