Anyone remember in old cartoons, when the character had to make an important decision and they'd show an angel on one side and a devil on ther other?

Or that whole thing about the voices in your head talking to you, when you think.

Broad and bland, but do you think those little personal demon/angel/voices could exisit?

I guess, it's kind of an ethical question.. one that could be interpretted as a mental disorder, but sometimes I feel like I have personal shadows (shoulder demons) always around me. Sometimes I see their shadows on my ceiling at night, hovering over my bed, staring.

I named them and everything, they have their own personalities and their own means of torturing my mind.  *<:) Like, there's Confuscious, I call him that because she's a wise ass, he's always the one who gives me bad ideas. Now you would think, I'd have an angel on the other side or some shiv, but instead I have Dime, who doesn't speak but he hums or whistles songs that bring back terrible memories or such. It's hanutning.

But enough of that, do you think they could exist for everyone? Or just certain people? Or is it all in our crazy little heads?

P.S. Don't know if this is in the right section.

I believe everyone has their own good side and bad side, some may name it (as you did, but its quite rare to my knowledge xD),and others simply accept its their inner selves and act accordingly. Problems begin when one side is louder ;)

Countess

I agree with Nina, everyone has their own good side & bad side (angel on the right devil on the left). When I was in treatment for an eating disorder, one of the things they had us do was name it. Specifically the voice that all of us heard in our heads telling us to give in. Mine was named Britney.

Oh, it makes me feel good to know that someone else has named the voices. I have several emotional disorders and the voices became prominent when I was in the hospital or alone, or any place that reminded me of the hospital.

Thanks for the responses.

Aside from the voices, just a hypothetical questions, do any of you believe in personal demons or devils, ghosts even? I'm jsut curious as to what people think. Also it's something fun to chew on. Mwahaha.  <^>

Well, I mean, a person's emotions or etc (forgot what went here) could manifest itself (sort of). And I am one that believes in spiritual guardians, mainly because I've seen some (just there and in action). Though when it comes to those, I'm still wondering whether they really are guardians or a manifestation of a person's own energy. These 'guardians' do develop as the person grows, both with time and experience. Maybe they aren't even manifestations, they're just what someone like me sees as a representation of someone's 'power'. Its hard to tell if we can look at something and see the same thing, or if we are just seeing the way we perceive it. Damn you world.

There are cases of ghosts attaching themselves to people or even objects. Occasionally these ghosts are not exactly friendly & can seem demonic at times. There is also plenty of evidence for guardian spirits/angels/guides.

This is such a spiffy little topic! My daughter asked me something like this yesterday; she asked me, if when she got older if she didn't know what to do, would she get little people on her shoulders to give her tips.

A physical manifestation of parts of our subconscious or power? I'm not sure if it's something that could actually happen in that form, but it's ( forgive the term ) cute to entertain the idea.

She's going to draw a picture of them for me, if she ever sees them.

Well, I could see power manifesting itself physically (in a way). As for emotions, what I meant there was what seems like a physical manifestation to us. What we can perceive as 'real', being able to communicate and interact with it, but it not being something others can.

I was just reminded of Quantum Leap.  :-D

I'd question my mental stability, before I accepted that these things were real, in all honesty.
But, our emotions taking a shape we can recognize and interact with isn't too wild; if these things can manifest into our actions and physical appearance, why can't they manifest into a way we can deal with it better?
If I'm understanding you right, then this is my theory:
Our subconscious has created the idea of these things, because it feels this is the best way for our conscious to handle certain emotions or parts of our mind, but our own energy has given it/them something to be able to stand alone and be "real"...

Just certain people. The conscious mind limits us too much.

Conscious not conscience.

But... I guess, most of us aren't necessarily the definition of conscious either, yeah?  :)zzz
